Sony Cybershot DSC-W210 Review

The Sony Cybershot DSC-W210 lives up to the quality reputation Sony’s Cybershot line of digital cameras have enjoyed for years. It has many of the up to date features you would look for in a pocket digital camera, with some nice upgrades that make it a good camera for beginners and more experienced photographers. The conservative Cybershot doesn’t overwhelm you with bright colors or fancy shapes. It comes in four muted color options: pink, blue, and the traditional silver and black. The shoot-out lens design can be a problem if the camera gets banged around a bit, but in general it slides in and out smoothly.

You can’t argue with the quality of a Carl Zeiss lens, and this one takes vibrant and sharp pictures. With 12.1 megapixels and a 4x optical zoom, there isn’t much that you can’t do with this little camera. Photos can be as large as 16″ x 20″ and the high resolution makes it easy to crop them creatively without sacrificing details or image quality. Most of the back of the camera is taken up by the large LCD viewing screen, with two menu wheels to the right. The menus are marked with recognizable icons and they are very easy to scroll through.

If you’re more interested in just snapping a picture without taking the time to figure out all of the lens settings and shutter speeds, the Sony Cybershot DSC-W210 can definitely deliver automated features to help you out. Image stabilization will get rid of any shakes that might happen with the camera operator or the subject being photographed. Smile shutter will wait to take the picture until the faces in the frame are smiling, and face detection will make sure that the focus remains on the faces instead of the background. Scene recognition can sense the lighting and motion of your subject and adjust the ISO anywhere in the available range between 100 and 3200. The 30 mm wide angle lens camera lens allows you to fit even more into every shot.

You’re not limited to still photos with the Sony Cybershot DSC-W210. It delivers high definition quality video when you need to film something on the move. The new Sony image management software has greatly improved the user interface so that it is much easier to sort through all of your photos and videos once you’ve uploaded them to your computer. It is also easier to sort through the images that are housed on your camera using the LCD viewing screen. When you want to share your photos with friends and you aren’t near a computer, you can use the built-in slide show on the camera’s viewing screen. The slide show will even let you play music, so you can have a multimedia production right on the back of your camera.

The Sony Cybershot DSC-W210 is a good quality pocket digital camera. It includes auto features that will allow even the least experienced photographer take pictures that they will be proud of.
