Used Audi – The Audi R10 Model

We are all familiar with the Audi R8. This car was Audi’s big break into the mainstream (if it can ever be called that) supercar market. It was a reasonably priced beauty of an automobile that was launched to a very positive reception, and which carried on into celebrity endorsement, dramatic advertising, a huge collection of race wins for Audi teams around the world.

Now, following the success of the R8 in the Le Mans 24 hr race, the R10 is following in its footsteps.

Ok, so the R10 isn’t exactly the same type of car as the R8 was. The R8 was beautiful, and it transitioned from race track to road with far few changes than would be necessary in the R10. The R10, you see, is somewhat of a racing beast. With a massively sculpted design created from seemingly endless curves and undulations, this would look out of place parked in front of a house, or in a driveway. It has purse racing blood running in its veins, and isn’t at all about being sold and making Audi some handy cash. This is one car that you are very very unlikely to ever see turn up in a used Audi showroom for 100 grand.

Suitably, therefore, the R10 has been making the rounds of some of the most difficult and challenging race tracks known to man. Not sleek little Formula 1 jobbies, but races that concentrate on endurance, perseverance and stamina. Cars need to go fast at the same time as being able to race for hours and hours in one sitting, something that isn’t the case in a simple start – stop race. These cars, consequently, have a lot more pressure exerted on every aspect of their design 9not just the engine), and have to stand up to those demands and expectations.

Audis favourite race, as you can probably guess, is the Le Mans 24 hour race, a challenging a exhausting race that pitches cars against one another at the very top of their game. They have a history of winning this race, sometimes through sheer tenacity, and were hoping that the diesel R10 wouldn’t be the car to stop this run of luck and skill. Thankfully for them their gambles in racing a diesel race car paid off, with the sexy and intimidating R10 becoming the first ever diesel car to win this, the toughest race in the world.

This triumph was juts one in a long list of wins for Audi in the past few years. The R10 TDI led them to yet another triumph in the 12 hr Sebring race, and the list of Le Mans wins has been growing year on year. The determination and bravery has paid off, and just a few years down the line the R10 is happily holding the position of best endurance race car, in my humble opinion anyway.

It may not be a street car or something a normal everyday person could buy – but the R10 is a force to be reckoned with as soon as it is out of the blocks.
