Used Mercedes Benz – Mercedes Special Editions

Most car manufacturers like to occasionally break away from producing normal day to day cars, and let their designers go a bit wild. Often it is to produce a totally new car that the world has never seen before, but just as often it is to create an interesting variation on an existing theme. Specifically this can mean producing a new variety, or more excitingly a special edition. These special editions can involve tiny little changes, such as adding a certain range of customisations, or they can be much more all encompassing, with dedicated colour schemes and complete overhauls of both looks and engine.

Mercedes, therefore, aren’t alone in the automotive world for having a whole range of special editions, most of which come with over the top and emotive names. However, I think that they stand easily out from the crowd thanks to the sheer beauty and amazing design effort that has gone into each and every new version. Every single one looks frankly dreamy, and they are all the sorts of cars that I would stop and stare at if I saw them in a new or used Mercedes-Benz showroom.
Take, for example, the SL-Class Night Edition. The SL class range is already a beautiful set of cars, all with sleek shapes and that slightly ostentatious (but in a good way) mouldings and aerodynamic lines. They definitely aren’t subtle at all, and Mercedes have really embraced this with the even more dramatic Night Edition. As you can probably guess, this new edition is all about dark looks and night based themes. I am talking not only a deep metallic black paintjob that matches the night sky, but darkened headlights, and a gorgeous black and silver interior. It is transformed by the updates into a car that is slightly gothic, and at the same time unbelievably luxurious in the way that only a dark car can be.

Whilst the Night Edition SL is perhaps the most dramatic special edition that the Mercedes Benz designers have created, there are other models that have some utterly classy design touches. One such example is the CLS-Class Grand Edition, which not only offers a range of little touches and tiny upgrades (such as the alloy wheels and the Palladium silver paint), but also an engine improvement., And not just any engine improvement – the lovely V6 diesel engine produces a beautiful level of torque and offers a really significant improvement on the standard engine. As you can see, sometimes the engineers get even more involved than the designers in special editions.

These are only two of the special editions that a large brand like Mercedes offers. However, both of them showcase the additions, changes and upgrades that can be made when designers and engineers are allowed to have their wicked way and create something wonderful. Personally the Night Edition, with its breathtaking looks, will always be my favourite, but it is only fair to acknowledge that each and every other model has its own set of special features and changes.
