7 Steps to Get Your Band Noticed to Get Signed

Now that you have a band you’re ready to get signed now right? Probably not. If you want to get signed, first you’ll have to get noticed. And that will include having a fan base, being seen by people who matter having a website and a lot more. This article will give you 7 steps you can take to get your band noticed to get signed.

Step One

Devote your life to developing your band. Even the best bands still practice. There is always room for improvements. Practice with intensity and never give up. Practice different types of music so you can expand your musical library. Don’t be like all the other garage bands that come out, strive to make your band different. Focus on your song writing and devote time to making your songs tighter with more meaning.

Step Two

Record your band and distribute the CDs. Don’t spend a lot of money doing this. You can have CDs made really easy these days. Simply record your band live, put it in MP3 format and upload to your computer. Then burn it on your own CD. Real easy. Record our live performances and perform your rehearsals. Once you have a small library of videos made, you can post them on Youtube and Myspace and Twitter and any other site that’ll let you. Give CDs away at your shows or on the streets. Also, check with local radio and cable stations to see if they accept submissions from local bands. Do whatever you can to get yourself on the air. This step alone is key to getting signed.

Step Three

Lend a helping hand to other bands. Let’s face it, people suck and so do a lot of other bands. So many of the other bands are full of jerks that are full of themselves. Trust me, that will come back to bite them in the butt later. Don’t be like them. Help other bands who may need some help. Unload their truck with them or set up equipment. Don’t be some lame groupie, but there’s nothing wrong with lending a helping hand. Besides, this is a great way to network and make connections.

Step Four

Make yourself available and be available when called on. There are more times than you can imagine that a band has to cancel a show. Now the venue is left with a vacancy. Be the fill in band when called on. And since we’re on that note, have all your information available at every venue within a hundred miles. That way, they’ll know who to call when a band has to bail.

Step Five

Do cool things for your fans. Stop selling crap at your shows. Give them away at your local shows. Pass out CDs while on stage and T-shirts. Be good to your fans. If you reward them, they’ll be loyal. Odds are they know a lot of people that would like to buy your CD. If you want to get signed to a record label, they’ll be looking at your fan base. If one band in your town had 1,000 followers and you have 100 followers, whose going to get signed? You or them? So make sure you’re good to your fans.

Step Six

For the love of all that’s Holy, please have an online presence. It is too freaking easy to be online these days. Have a Myspace page, a Twitter page and a Facebook fan page. Also, get a Squidoo page, a Blogger blog and a WordPress blog. You’ll be able to post all your latest information online, give out free stuff and free recordings. Social bookmark your site everywhere. You’ll get noticed. Again, if you want to get signed, the major record labels are going to look at your web presence. If you don’t have one, well, odds are you won’t get signed.

Step Seven

Use your talents and volunteer when you can. Why do you think so many contractors volunteer at Habitat for Humanity? It’s not just because they want to be nice to others, they make great connections at these events. You will too. Volunteer to play for free for fundraisers, local clubs, local events, birthday parties and weddings. That’s alright, laugh if you want. Do some research and see how many times Pearl Jam played for free. Don’t be afraid (or too stingy) to offer your talents for free. Your good works will get noticed, maybe even by some major record labels.
