Are you one of those who enjoy rooting for the underdog like me? Wishing that a miracle just might happen this year for that particular team? Thinking that this is their year because they deserve it and have great team spirit even without having won their last season? Well the good news and the bad news is right here. Good news first, BYU’s team is the one you are going to be rooting for this year, they are the underdogs. Bad news now, root, cheer, cross your fingers but it will not do you any good. This team can have all the heart, all the team spirit and it will not help make them into a winning team.

And you might say why? First of all they don’t even have a team to really speak of right now to start the year off with. In college football we hear a lot about “rebuilding” and that is exactly where the BYU team stands, in a way. They’re not just “rebuilding”, they are actually starting over on new land. Even New Orleans did not seem to need all this rebuilding after being hit by Katrina.

Why are we being this harsh with our statements? Well to start with the last season BYU had was not one you would want to write home to your dad or friends about. We’d even venture to say it is more of a season that would be best forgotten about, swept under the rug so to say. And let’s take it further in saying that if you are a team like BYU and you mess up the season that badly you need to be prepared to take the heat, take the lumps. There are even many of you out there that are saying that BYU will not even be worth their time or spirit to root for as the underdog team this year, but that might even be a bit harsh of a statement to make, even for someone like me. I say this because some of the players that they are signing on for their upcoming season happen to be in the top twenty-five (25) recruits countrywide. Having these new recruits on their team and playing on the field with them might just give the rest of the BYU team a fighting chance, the will to try and win the games.

Let’s not get too far ahead of ourselves yet though, the team’s still missing several key positions. The BYU quarterback, a prominent position, still needs some serious help. The BYU team has been lacking the help of a strong quarterback on their team for quite a few years now. And hopefully the new recruits will help resolve this issue.

BYU’s passing game isn’t the only place they fail though. Their running game also needs help, a major overhaul would be nice. BYU has no reason to have such a terrible running game when they are traditionally one of the best top football schools in our country. Our belief stands that with BYU bringing on the new strong recruits to their 2010 team they will be able to tone up and resolve their inadequacy of the last ten (10) seasons.

Let’s be real, last year it was like watching BYU as a Div. II team. Do you really want to be watching a Div. II team? This team has opportunity for this coming 2010 season with fresh players in their locker room and should once again be able to be a real force in Div. I football. Their potential to make their future better is there. It is up to BYU as a team to make use of all they have.
