Car Dealers – Waiting for the Summer Surge

Although our weather here in the UK is extremely unpredictable and never as hot and sunny as we would like it to be, we buy more convertible cars than any other country in Europe. This piece of information is rather bizarre when you consider the fact that around 8 months out of 12 you can’t even put the roof down for fear of hypothermia. However, go to any car dealer around the country and 9 times out of 10 you will find at least one convertible vehicle in their showroom. The reason why they seem to be so popular is to do with that inevitable competition that seems to exist in all of us to be better than Mr. Smith next door.

I can only imagine the smug feeling that one must get when setting off for a car journey on a rare hot day in the middle of summer with the top down on your shiny convertible. The looks from other drivers as they sit in traffic sweating away in the heat must border on pure hatred, yet the feeling of being the winner in the race to be cool (in both senses of the word) allows these looks to go blissfully unnoticed.

Driving a convertible has always been the ultimate dream for any child that has an enthusiasm for motors or for any man going through that inevitable mid-life crisis. Many women would be extremely happy to be seen in a convertible, whether as a passenger or as the driver. The convertible car alludes to the glamour of days gone by; you’d be hard pushed to find anyone who didn’t want to recreate that glamour in our own times. The iconic image of driving along a country road with the top down, hair blowing in the breeze and a beautiful woman in the passenger’s seat wearing a headscarf is something that many can only day dream about. Today however, you do not have to be of the rich elite to own a convertible car. Searching local car dealerships can reveal some pleasant surprises as second hand convertibles can be extremely cheap.

If it is a brand new convertible that you are looking for however, then the choice for you is better than ever before. Many convertibles are now just modified versions of our favourite models and can still look understated enough to drive around in the middle of winter without any embarrassment. Your local car dealer can show you the options available to you, one of these possibly being the choice between a soft or a hard top. Each has its good points and bad points so it would really be your prerogative as to which type suits you best. Soft tops to tend to look better, especially when folded down, whereas hard tops have the benefit of having an added safety advantage. Either way, you should double check what your insurance would be on a convertible before taking the plunge and actually buying one as they can be a bit more expensive to insure. But while it’s sunny, what are you waiting for? The car dealers are waiting for the inevitable summer surge…
