Cubby Bench

The Cubby Bench, also know as the Lennoxcubbybench, is a tough, solid, plastic bench that is sold with a twenty year warranty against rust, delamination, or breakage under normal use. It has become extremely popular in spas, gyms, schools and other locations that desire its low maintenance benefits. It is available in twelve attractive colors that include gray, beige, desert stone, dove stone, starry night, moss, toffee, buttermilk, charcoal gray, burgundy, black, and deep blue.

There are numerous advantages associated with the non-traditional solid plastic Cubby Bench. First, it is more environmentally friendly because it is made from thirty percent pre-consumer recycled HDPE plastic. Second, the plastic is very low maintenance and never needs painting because the color permeates the plastic throughout (homogeneous). Third, these benches will resist dents and scratches. Fourth, these durable benches utilize an all-welded construction method and are therefore able to withstand most acts of vandalism. Fifth, these benches are one hundred percent plastic and therefore impervious to moisture. They will never rust or delaminate like other traditional benches.

The Cubby Bench derives its name from the fact that there are several “cubby holes” or open storage areas beneath the bench seat. These “cubby holes” are one of the most desired features of this bench because they offer open and temporary storage with ease. The sides, box and dividers are cut from a sheet of three-eighths inch thick HDPE plastic. A matte texture is selected as the finish type and the sides, box, and dividers are welded to the one inch thick bench top to form a complete unit. There are no metal fasteners or dovetail joints. Benches can be ordered in four standard lengths of thirty-six, forty-eight, sixty, or seventy-two inches. The depth of the bench is eleven and one-half inches and the height is twenty inches. Each cubby hole is approximately ten inches wide and eleven and one-half inches deep. Of course, since the bench is a single unit, it is shipped fully assembled.

The installation of the Cubby Bench is very simple and straightforward. It is strongly suggested that the benches be installed in a climate controlled environment and away from any direct sunlight. Direct sunlight will fade the color and shorten the life of the bench. It is recommended that the benches be anchored to the wall or floor to prevent any personal injury from “tipping over” of the benches. The installer should clean and smooth all floors and walls and remove any protruding nails or other objects. The benches should be level and floor-supported or they will not serve the user properly. If leveling is required then shims should be used. The installer should drill approximately two holes per “cubby hole” to anchor the benches securely. If the benches are to be floor mounted then the installer would drill the holes in the bottom panel. If the benches are to be mounted against the wall, then holes should be drilled in the back panel.
