Exercise For Home Business Owners

Some people could never imagine there being a downside to running a business from home, but there can indeed be negatives to working in this environment. One of the main ones is the lack of exercise that can result if you aren’t too careful.

Since lots of home workers have jobs, which involve sitting at a computer all day, you can see where the problems start. Your journey to work could be as little as getting up, getting dressed, walking into your home office and sitting down again. We are talking about mere seconds rather than half an hour walking to and from the train station or bus stop.

The good news is that it doesn’t have to be hard to build some valuable exercise into your day. For example, if you get up at 8am and start work soon afterwards, try getting up at 7.30am and going for a refreshing half hour walk first, instead. You will feel the benefit as it is a great way to wake up in the morning and get ready for business.

Alternatively, you could take an hour-long break from business during the day and head out for a bike ride or a swim when it is less crowded. You can always make up the hour later! There are lots of ways you can build exercise into a day that you control. You wouldn’t be able to do that if you were working as an employee.

Another good way to get some exercise is to go outside and do some gardening for half an hour or so. You could even treat yourself to a Nintendo Wii and get half an hour of tennis or baseball in, whatever the weather might be doing outside.

The important thing is to try and get up and get moving as much as you can. It is very easy to sit in your chair and not move for hours, only getting up to pop to the loo or make a snack or a drink. But this isn’t good for you and you will feel sluggish very quickly if you stick to this way of working. You certainly will not do your home business any favours if you make yourself ill in the longer term either.

There are also many kinds of simple exercises you can do while you are sitting in your chair. You could keep a couple of filled water bottles on your desk and do some arm raises with those every hour or so. You could also slide your chair back and raise your legs up and down, holding them out and rigid for a count of five or ten to help strengthen the muscles. Why not try buttock squeezes, you can do these all day and your muscles will really benefit from it?

To achieve the ideal work life balance, make sure you do some simple exercises while you are working at your desk, as well as actually getting up and out to take advantage of going for a walk or a jog every day. We only need thirty minutes of reasonable exercise each day to get the benefits and you will find you are much more alert, able to work better and hopefully this will aid you in gaining more business.
