Through this, you will see how financially demanding a city is that would need water, gas, and electricity in order to continue thriving. Moreover, you will also come to realise that there are other important things that make up a city such as its road system, accommodation, and sewage system. However, if you will compare SimCity series to reality, there is one thing that the game does not have a budget for – the pieces of street furniture that are supposed to be scattered all over the city.

If someone says street furniture, it would immediately come to mind that the term refers to those obvious benches and streetlights. However, it also includes the less obvious street furnishings such as the telephone booths, post boxes, traffic lights, public toilets, bollards, and the like. With the help of these furnishings, pedestrians, drivers, motorists, and the like have more comfortable lives as they go about the streets. Actually, the term street furniture is used to refer to any object and equipment that are owned by the public.

It would have been better if they were. They would have a nicer impact on the public if they will appear more than just blobs of steel and concrete placed on the streets. There are many students in colleges with art degrees. Why not use their talent to help upgrade the general appearance of the streets that they walk on everyday? Designing the street furniture would help give the city a uniform look of beauty. Boredom would be avoided. If the people will participate in designing these street furnishings, it would be easier to put artistic flair into the city streets.

The impact of artistic flair on street furniture can be perfectly shown by the impression that England usually leaves on the minds of its residents and visitors. England is usually associated with the Queen, football hooliganism, Big Ben but people also think about the red telephone booths, red post boxes, and the lack of public toilets. The latter impression about England’s street furniture only proves that people do pay attention to street furniture and that these furnishings can be used as instruments to create an impact on the people who will visit the city. If the city would opt to have a positive impression on its residents and visitors, all that is needed is to place the right furniture on the city streets.
