Knowing the Strategies of Metal Detecting Through Beeps

Metal detecting can be a very exciting hobby because it is full of surprises and the excitement can be almost endless as long as there are places to go for your search of valuables. However, you can never enjoy having your metal detector around if you are not familiar with its functions especially the signals it emits when it senses a metal. Your best use of metal detector can only rely on how efficient your metal detector detects metals and emit signals that are understandable to your hearing.

Keep in mind that each type of metal emit different signal so every time your metal detector senses a metal it elicit a sounding beep probably different from other beeps. Nevertheless, constant beeping means your detector is sensing too many things on the ground that has metal components in them so this becomes very strenuous for you to uncover every item your detector senses. So if you want to discover only certain things your detector must sense you have to follow this advice so that you can easily recognize detector beeps.

1.Wear a headset. Using the best metal detector cannot give you the utmost amplification of sound without the headset so putting on the headset can give you the advantage of hearing differences in the sounds and the proper amplification. Purchase good quality headsets that are specifically made for metal detectors and there are lots of them from treasure hunting accessory stores.

2.Practice first with familiar objects. Knowing the beeps, sounds and clicks of your metal detector is the most important aspects of metal detecting so if you want to familiarize yourself with different metals and their beeps, practice first on things that are familiar to you. You can use objects like steel bottle caps, rusted nails, silver coins, gold ring or bracelets and anything you want to try just to distinguish the beeps from each object.

3.Recognizing the differences in beeps. Different metals create different beeps and so the same contents in metal creates the same beeps. So if you try your metal detector on gold coins, gold rings and gold bracelet your detector could emit only one type of sound. Different sounds will be emitted if you try it on tin cans, nails or other jewelleries. Experts on metal detectors say jewelleries typically gives off a medium beeping tone so that the sound is smooth and consistent even though you put the objects near or far from your detector. Coins can have more consistent sound than jewelleries so they usually emit higher beeps. For items, they usually create fluttery tones and inconsistent beeps.

4.Using X method. Your equipment may become confused if you encounter overlapping objects so inconsistent sound may be produced. To be sure, do the X technique by marking an X over the whole area where there are beeps and move your detector on each side of the X. Mark each side where there is the strongest beeping sound until the tone becomes definite and concentrated and this is where you can dig.

5.Find the productive areas twice at a 90 degree angle. Productive areas are areas where there is the greatest metal detecting potential in finding valuable metal objects so when your detector beeps you should explore the area twice at 90 degrees from each other to make sure that the whole area is fully covered.
