Metal Detecting- What You Can Do During Winter Season

If you love metal detecting so much, you would likely be discouraged and be impatient as you wait for the winter season to pass and the thick snow to melt. You would really think that winter season is a great hindrance to metal detecting. However, you will be proven wrong after you read this article because we will teach you how to overcome little rain showers so that you can proceed to doing your beloved hobby. You do not have to wait for winter season to finish its long course. There are some tips that you can follow so that you will still have fun metal detecting under the pouring rain.

1. Protect your metal detector from the rain using commercial meter rain-cover.
You need to protect your metal detector’s meter so that it will not get soaked in the rain and would continue to give accurate signals. You would not want to go digging in the wet soil and getting nothing but trash because your metal detector got confused after getting wet. You may use a commercial meter rain-cover to keep it dry. However, this dry state may not last long as eventually the rain-covers will get damp from the inside.

2. Use plastic grocery bags as meter rain-cover.
If you do not want to spend more for your metal detector, you can use plastic grocery bags to cover the meter. These bags are undoubtedly cheaper substitutes plus the fact that you are also recycling them. However, these bags may not be able to give your metal detector meter the same kind of protection that the commercial covers can. Yet, they will still allow you to go on with your metal detecting despite the rain.

3. Protect yourself from the rain and the cold as well.
Your metal detector is not the only important thing that you need to protect. You also have to bundle up so that you can last a little longer under the rain. Buy a wetsuit in order to keep yourself dry. At least, you will still feel warm and cosy while being wrapped within the suit. For your protection against the cold wind, you should also invest in a raincoat. You can put the coat over the wetsuit so that you will stop the bites of the cold winds penetrate into your skin.

4. Buy waterproof headphones.
Since you will expose yourself to the rain, you should not forget to buy waterproof headphones. However, you may also content yourself with standard headphones for they will still work even under the rain showers.

Metal detecting during winter will give you a new dimension to your hobby. This is also kind of a test to your endurance to see if you can last long under the wet and cold environment of a rain shower. Moreover, you will have the metal detecting site all to yourself. You do not have to share it with other metal detecting enthusiasts and you do not need to be conscious under the curious stares of the tourists all around you.
