Newspapers to Read Whilst Sightseeing New York

Back home, a morning newspaper is the standard way to start the day. Whether it’s a financial fix of the economy in the CityAM, a daily dose of weird and wonderful news in the Metro or a more intellectual read of the Times, we all like to know what’s going on in the world. But why start your day any differently while you’re sightseeing New York? We take a look at the city’s best and most interesting reads.

USA Today

One of the most widely circulated and well-thumbed newspapers you’ll come across whilst sightseeing New York, USAToday is distributed in almost every state and has become a true American favourite. Easy to read, this paper is available only on weekdays and will certainly keep you entertained as you go from one attraction to another. With four main sections, including news, money, sports and life this paper has something for everyone to enjoy, and if you pick one up on Friday you’ll have even more to read with supplements such as travel news and ideas, and a weekend guide, which will be particularly useful if you’re planning on staying in New York over the weekend. USAToday is not only great for keeping you up to date on news and events, but is cheap as chips as well.

New York Times

Known to many as ‘the Grey Lady’, the New York Times is the city’s most popular paper. Sporting the motto ‘all the news that’s fit to print’, you can be sure that a read of this newspaper will leave you fully up to date with the city’s happenings, making you feel so at home that you’ll forget you’re a tourist as you’re sightseeing New York. With several sections which include news, business, opinions, arts, sports, style and various other features, the New York Times has a bit of everything. And if you have some time to kill and don’t want to buy a paper? Simply find an Internet cafe or use the computers at your hotel, and you can find everything that’s in the paper on the New York Times website, which was voted the most popular American news website in the year 2008.

New York Post

Describing itself as America’s oldest newspaper to have been published continuously since its conception, the New York Post is not just a newspaper, but is also something of a tourist attraction since the New York Post Building became a designated landmark many years ago. A tabloid newspaper, the New York Post is perhaps considered to be one of the more risque newspapers you’ll find in the city but is arguably the one that is most guaranteed to give you up-to-the-minute ideas on what to do while you’re sightseeing. New Yorker’s love to hate the New York Post, but with its large sports section, and eye-catching headlines, you’ll see many people dipping into it for a fresh and fun read.

So, don’t let the fact that you’re sightseeing New York mean that you miss out on your morning paper. There’s plenty to read in the city, and with so many papers out there you can get a different perspective on each day of your trip.
