Places to Visit in New Delhi, India – Part 1

New Delhi is the capital of India and one of the most popular cities. Delhi is one of the most famous and attractive destinations for tourists in India. So whenever you wish to spend your holidays in India, you must visit New Delhi. There are many places to visit in New Delhi, so whenever you plan to visit, make sure that you visit all the places which are worth going to. There are some important places to visit in New Delhi like Qutab Minar, the Red fort, Lotus temple, Humayun’s tomb, Akshardham temple, Jama masjid, India Gate, etc.

Qutab Minar – Qutab Minar is a tower which is 72.5 meters high. The tower was built in the 13th century by India’s first Muslim ruler Qutb-ud-din Aibak. The tower is listed as a UNESCO world heritage site. It is one of the most attractive place for tourists to visit. There are 379 steps to go on top of the Qutab minar. Standing on top of the tower will give you an amazing visual experience. It is made up of red sand stones with great carvings and verses from the holy Quran. There is another iron pillar nearby. It is believed that if any person can encircle the entire column with their arms having their back towards the pillar will have their wish accomplished. You must visit this place.

Humayun’s Tomb – Humayun’s Tomb was built in 1562 AD by the Mughal emperor Humayun’s wife Hamida Banu Begum. The complex was declared a UNESCO world heritage site in 1993. The construction of building is amazing and symmetrical. The tomb is constructed in the middle of a large square patterned garden. The tomb is built up of rubble masonry, red sandstones and white marbles. It is 47 meters high and 300 feet wide. This is also a must visit place.

The Red Fort – The Red fort is also known as the ‘Lal Qila’ (means red fort in hindi). It was constructed by Mughal emperor Shah Jahan in the year 1638 in old Delhi city. It is a popular and the most attractive destination for tourist. It is listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site. It is also considered as the most powerful symbol of sovereignty of India. The national flag is hoisted by the prime minister every year on the Indian Independence day on 15th August. The fort is built with red sandstone. The major attraction of red for is the Mumtaz Mahal, the Rang Mahal, the Khas Mahal, the Diwan-i-Am, the Diwan-i-Khas, the Hamam and the Shah Burj.

Jama Masjid – The Jama Masjid is the largest and a very well known mosque in India. It is located half a kilometer west of the red fort near chandni chowk in old Delhi. It was also built by Shah Jahan in the year 1656 AD. 5000 workers worked for six years to complete the Jama Masjid. Jama Masjid was constructed of red sandstones and white marbles.
