Pune – Oxford of the East

Pune is known as the oxford of the east It is the hub for education for the Indians as well as the foreigners.

Pune has become the educational capital of India. The city is also known as the oxford of the east as Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru called it. It attracts large number of students from within and outside India. Due to the fact that the city contains a variety of institutes offering various courses, it has become the ideal place for students who come for further studies .

The wide range of courses offered by the Pune University is supported by good infrastructure facilities as well as various cultural platforms. Especially those who come from south eastern Asia find the city very welcoming. Pune consists of many universities, some of which are even deemed universities like the Bharati Vidyapeeth, Deccan College, D.Y.Patil College, Symbiosis Eductaion Center and so on.

Pune University, also called the temple of learning, was established in the year 1948 making Pune the favorite among the students. The university consists of 41 post-graduate departments and 265 affiliated colleges. Almost135 institutions have an enrollment of around 1,70,000 students. The University of Pune was known as the University of Puna a few years back, it is situated in the north western part of Pune and is one of recognized universities in India.

Earlier, in 1949, there were only 18 colleges which were recognized and affiliated by the university, with around 8000 students. In 2004 the university had 46 graduate departments, 269 affiliated colleges and 118 recognized research institutes with around 1,70,000 students enrolled in both graduate and undergraduate courses.

Pune is also considered as the research hub of India due to the fact that many research centers are located in Pune. Some of the research centers that are affiliated with Pune university are; National Chemical Laboratory, Central Water and Power research Station, etc. The city has some of the top colleges of India like the AFMC, Symbiosis and FTIA.

Many engineering colleges are AICTE approved like the College of Engineering, Bharti Vidyapeeth Engineering College and the College of Military Engineering. Medical colleges like AFMC, Bharti vidyapeeth also are located in Pune. The city has 43 management colleges.

Pune offers education to most of the foreign students who come to India for further studies. Approximately 4000 students come here for studies every year. The quality of teaching, available resources and experienced teaching faculty has made Pune the best destination for education to all students.

New educational institutes have opened up in the past years who have adapted themselves to the commercial growth of the city. Many institutes have an association with the related industries so that the students can gain practical knowledge with the theory they are taught.

Lately in 2008, the University of Oxford announced that they were planning to establish the Oxford University India Business Centre at Pune. This would be their first offshore facility.

Pune’s ability to stay as a famous educational center lies in the fact that the educational system adopts itself with the rapid education changes in India. The city has proven to connect and grow its infrastructure and thus has made all the difference in the life of the students as well.
