As many of us are aware, the Mediterranean Sea is one of the most fascinating seas in the world. When vacationing in Menorca, embarking on a spot of scuba diving will provide you with a holiday experience like no other. Not only will you get the chance to experience some of the many species that reside within the waters, but you will also be able to explore other areas of the island of Menorca that may not have been on your initial itinerary.

There are many brilliant dive sites on the island – all of which will offer you different surroundings, water conditions and sea life to feast your eyes on. However, in order to ensure that you are exploring in safe areas, it is crucial that you look to the service of a diving instructor to not only provide you with the necessary equipment but also to go with you on your dives to ensure you do not get lost, etc. There are many instructors and companies which can be found on the island and many of these will often based on the beaches within Menorca, but with research you can explore these options and even book a session prior to your holiday.

The bay of Cala’n Forcat is known for being one of the most relaxing dives within the seas that surround Menorca. The depth begins at around 2 meters and gently slopes to around 10 meters as you reach the end of the bay. On your journey around the bay you will see a wide range of fish such as bream, mullet and even the occasional octopus. At the end of the bay, the depth will drop to a further 18 meters onto a sandy bed which will guide you towards a huge rock formation nicknamed ‘The Submarine’ due to its size and shape. As you follow the canyon down to around 22 meters, you are likely to see many fish embedded into the weed beds. As you turn left towards the edge of the bay you will be greeted by local Moray Eels, Scorpion fish and Basslets. This is a great diving spot with varying depths and sea life.

The Pont d’en Gil Cave is perceived by many as one of the diving spots not to be missed within Menorca. Due to its natural beauty factor, the spot is often mentioned in diving books and is truly a sight you will not forget. However due to its nature, this is an area definitely requiring the help of a qualified diver. The cave can be reached by two different entrances – one which is a bit of a tight squeeze from inside Pont d’en Gil Bay, the other which is from a large opening situated on the bay. This can be a challenging dive so possibly not the best one of beginners. However, you will be open to an exploration of the inside of the cave which boasts a unique feature in that for much of the cave you are able to surface into a large airspace and bounce along the water with the use of your life jacket and the rock formations within the cave.

Pont d’en Gil Bay, one of the entrances to the cave, also offers a number of different dives to suit all abilities. Whether you perform a circling dive off the jutting tongue of the land through the arch, or go from the gentle meander across the bay’s sand bed; you will find the bay rich with sea life. You are also likely to see many Stingrays on the beach, which is a sight you may not see in many of the other diving spots within Menorca. This spot can only be accessed by boat, which will anchor in the area in which you wish to dive, and the most appropriate areas will be identified to you by your instructor.
