The Best Place to Learn Spanish, Mexico?
There is no doubt. All of the experts agree that the best way to learn Spanish, or any language is to go to a country in which Spanish is spoken and to fully immerse yourself in the culture, guided by good teaching at a local Spanish school. We have all seen the adds for Spanish books and Spanish software that claims to be able to teach you Spanish in 30 days. The truth is none of those claims are true. Even if you do have a Spanish immersion experience, 30 days is not enough for a Spanish beginner to speak fluent Spanish. But if you stick to it, and fully immerse yourself it is possible to do.
You will hear many people tell you about which country they think is the best place to go for a Spanish Immerion experience. Some will say it is Spain, because it is where the Spanish language originated. Others will tell you to go to Argentina because Buenos Aires is an almost European city. Still other will tell you that the best place to learn Spanish is Guatemala, because it is the cheapest. But you may wonder what is the best choice for you.
Even though people have different criteria, there are a few considerations that all Spanish students should keep in mind.
Which country has the largest Spanish speaking population in the world?
Which country had the first Spanish language school for foreigners?
Which country has the largest number of university trained Spanish teachers?
Which country is where all of the movie and series are dubbed into Spanish?
If you answered Mexico for all of the above, you are correct. The Spanish that you would learn in a Spanish immersion program in Mexico would be the Spanish that is used in businesses around the world. The accent in Mexico is considered neutral by the rest of the Spanish speaking world. That is why most of the modern movies and series are dubbed by Mexican actors.
No matter what your Spanish learning needs may be, Mexico will have a Spanish school to fit your specific needs. Whether you would like to learn in a colonial city or amoung the mountains surrounded by indigineous people or if you would rather spend your afternoons doing homework on the one of Mexico’s white sand beaches. There will be a place in Mexico for you to learn Spanish.
All that being said, where to decide to learn Spanish does have other factors. Among those may be cost, or a work assignment. Mexico may be considered by many to be the top country to learn Spanish in the world, but if your work is going to be in Argentina or Spain, it is best to go to those countries to learn Spanish. This is because in addition to learning Spanish, you will also be able to learn about the culture and get used to the thick accents that some of these countries have (many Spanish speakers have trouble understanding people for Argentina).
Regardless of what you choose, learning Spanish in a Spanish immersion program will open a world of opportunities for you. And enrolling in a Spanish immersion program is the best way to do so.
