Therapies Used by Your Local Chiropractor

Ultrasound therapy is used by chiropractors as one of the many combinations of treatments. This type of ultrasound is called therapeutic ultrasonograpy and is different than diagnostic ultrasound. Treatment only takes 3 to 5 minutes. It’s done with a wand device which makes sound waves that produce heat and can help joints, muscles or tendons to heal faster. One way it works is by increasing blood flow which occurs from tissue heated between 40 to 45 degrees Celsius. Another way it works is by vibrating tissue which stimulates and repairs cells where they’re inflamed.

Therapeutic ultrasound reduces muscle spasms, inflammation and swelling from the heated sound waves. It improves lower back pain and stiffness. Other health problems that may be treated with this therapy are fibrositis, osteoarthritis, periartritis, radiculitis, myalgia, sciatica, sprains, whiplash and rheumatoid arthritis. There are some important safety measures when using this treatment. The wand needs to be kept moving and used with a gel. The gel increases conductivity of the sound waves. They won’t be transferred effectively without the use of gel. The gel is also needed because the wand could break or a patient could be supposedly burned inside.

Another therapy chiropractors may use is called Infrared therapy. This therapy uses high-intensity infrared light that can penetrate two inches into the skin and deeply into parts of the body. The deep penetration results in better circulation which can remove toxins, bring in needed nutrients and relieve pain. Increased blood circulation can strengthen the cardiovascular system. It stimulates healing and renews cells, nerves and muscle tissue. It’s also used to reduce pain, stiffness, swelling and inflammation. Infrared devices work at a temperature of 40-45 degrees Celsius.

Infrared therapy can sometimes be used as an alternative to medication or surgery. It often relieves pain and there are no side effects. Infrared therapy has worked for some patients when other treatments failed. Chiropractor Robert Ensley in California says he has accurately diagnosed acute and chronic pain syndromes with the infrared camera. This camera also determines the best type of treatment for each patient. It also monitors the effects of the treatment and evaluates when it should be stopped. According to Dr. Ensley the infrared imaging camera allows visualizing with live images, the physiology of the automatic nervous system. It can show what the patients symptoms or pain is coming from.

Ultrasound therapy is recommended by chiropractors for patients with many kinds of injuries and ailments. Scientific and medical tests have shown it relieves pain and helps healing. The sound waves can’t be heard by humans or animals. Anodyne Infrared Therapy has been cleared by the FDA and is used by many chiropractors. This is a non-invasive and safe treatment that produces warmth. It is used to heal all types of injuries faster and manages pain. The treatments are from 30 to 45 minutes long. If the injuries are minor it only takes 3 to 5 minutes for a treatment. Serious injuries may take up to 20 treatments to successfully work.
