Folding doors are called folding doors because obviously they are folded when they are closed and swing wide opened when in use. Of all types of doors, these doors are the best when if comes to maximizing a limited space. The first folding doors were the patio and French doors and they became popular because of their conventionalities and unique way of offering new space in homes. Although these doors are still being sought by homeowners because they still bring elegance and classical feel when installed as extension doors from the house, new types of folding doors have gave way to the exciting world of folding doors.

We have now the bi-fold doors, the multiple folding doors or accordion doors and the innovated sliding folding doors. If we could surmise all these types of doors among which of them is the most popular, the bi-fold door can be the best candidate. Why? Because they can be installed where there is very limited space that the ordinary doors cannot conveniently fit. This is why they are most used on closets, pantries and laundry rooms. The largest type, however, can be used to separate one room into two rooms so they can make two rooms from a single open wide room.

Bi-folding or bi-fold doors are actually narrow doors that are attached by hinges in the middle and they are installed along tracks so that they slide open and slide again to close them. On the other hand, the multi-folding doors are also like bi-fold doors because they also fold to one side. However, accordion or multi-folding doors have multiple panels that when closed all these panels fold together like how an accordion folds. This unique characteristic makes them to use less space as well. Bi-fold doors have wider panels and of course only consist of two panels whereas accordion doors have multiple slim panels. They can be installed on a track or hang on hinges and rolled away on one place.

There are also the acoustical doors and they are the type of folding doors used to insulate rooms against noise. They are normally used on churches and office building or any place where soundproofing is needed. However, although their main purpose is to provide soundproofing, most types of acoustical doors have thin panels so they cannot provide total soundproofing but can only serve as partition for rooms when necessary.

Folding doors basically were made to serve as exterior doors and that means they were previously installed commonly in the backyard, which serve as extension doors of the house. With such convenience, the homeowner can have the benefit of an unobstructed view if he can install folding doors that are made of glass. Folding doors manufacturers do not stop in coming up with new and unique products so we can expect that in the coming years more innovation will come out with regards to folding doors. Different countries also have their own type of folding doors and with the combination of styles and designs of folding doors from different cultures and societies, its not far that one day, the folding doors would be the most innovated parts of our homes.
