Ways on How to Install Hanging Bi-Folding Doors
When it comes to installing bi-folding doors, the method of installation can be the same as with installing ordinary doors. Bifold doors come in different designs and styles and when you buy them they come with installation instructions. The height of the ordinary bifold doors are 80 inches or more than 6 and a half feet tall. They can be trimmed down to shorter height and the hardware where you can buy it can do this for you. When installing them, the height of the door opening should be at least two inches higher than the length of the panel doors so that there is enough clearance for the track and space for the hardware.
Installing bi-folding doors is simple. Just follow this simple instruction and you can never go wrong. First, start by marking the top opening of the open space with a pencil and then line up the track. After marking, pre-drill screw holes by using a drill bit smaller than the body of the screw so that there would be a grip when you insert the screws. Position the pivot brackets which you can find inside the header track about 3/8 inches away from the ends of the opening. Using the header track, line up the pivot bracket by using a carpenters level that you should put against the side frame and then mark the floor with a pencil while aligning the bottom track. Remember to take measurements where the top track will be lined up and then transfer the measurement to the bottom where you will install the pivot bracket.
If the floor has carpet in it, you have to use a wooden pad beneath the bottom pivot bracket and then cut away the carpet using a cutter just enough for the wooden pad to get fit and stuck it to the floor. However, it there is only the cement floor, you can use adhesive that is specifically made for gluing on cement and glue the pad into the cement. Let the adhesive set and dry for 24 hours. When it’s all set, line up the pivot bracket with the top track and you can now fasten the wooden pad in it. When all the brackets are all lined up with each other and all things are in place, it is now time to hang the bi-folding doors by just folding the doors in half and then fit the guide pin on the upper track. You may need some assistance now in lifting up the door and fitting the adjustable pivot into the pivot bracket.
If the bi-folding doors have four panels you will need to install alignment brackets at the back side of the two middle doors and repeat the last steps described above until all panels are secured. Now you must install the doorknobs at certain height where people can reach it comfortably. Avoid installing the doorknobs too close to the edges or else it would be hard for anyone to operate the bifold doors. Now that is how simply you install your bifold doors. If this still sounds hard to you, you can ask the hardware if they are providing free installation or if you can just add small payment for the service when buying from them folding doors.
