Who Needs Motivation?
Motivation is described as the desire to achieve a goal by developing a goal oriented behavior. Where can one get motivation? It has been said that there are two sources where one can derive motivation. Intrinsically, meaning one derives motivation from one’s self, from the inside, from within. And factors would include results, situations, and emotions one can control. The other one would be Extrinsically, meaning one derives motivation from outside forces and not from one’s self. Examples of this would include money, people, work and how one believes others would perceive them.
Aside from intrinsic and extrinsic motivation, people also react differently towards positive and negative motivation. Positively motivated people usually respond because of the enjoyment they experience being part of a certain task or situation. For example, people who are motivated to go to the gym 5 times a week do so to get a lean body. They do this to get the opposite sex attracted to them, start dating eventually, get married, have kids and live happily ever after. That could be the main factor of their motivation in going to the gym. On the other hand, negative motivation involves an individual forcing himself to do something in order to avoid a situation he’s afraid of happening. an example would be people going to the gym because of the fear of getting fat or obese.
Motivation is important. Why? Because it acts like a fuel to the human soul just like a fuel would allow the car to move and function. It allows us to live fulfilled live and it allows us to do the things we want to do and achieve the goals we want to achieve. Nothing will ever be done without the proper motivation. To start off, you have to have a set of goals you would want to achieve. Theses goals should be realistic ones. Without setting goals, you will not be motivated because there will be no desire to achieve something. You have to set goals so that you will have a realistic view of where you see yourself once you’ve achieved those goals. When you set your goals, you will be able to come up with your course of actions as to how you will be able to reach those goals. Without setting up goals, you will not know what you want to do and what you would need to work on. Setting up goals let’s you see progress in yourself on how much you have improved.
Take note though that goals should be very specific and achievable. By setting up goals which are unrealistic, you will find yourself demotivated sooner than later because chances are, you don’t know the right course of action you should have started with in the first place. Goals have to be attainable so you can reach them in a slow and sure process. By setting up small attainable goals, the chances of being unsuccessful is reduced. Failure can be a big threat to one’s motivation. because when a person fails, he loses sight of the main reason why he wants to achieve that certain goal, therefore, losing sight of your motivation as well.
Regardless of the kind of motivation you have, it’s important that this will consistently keep you motivated throughout the whole process. remember to set small attainable and achievable goals to keep you motivated. As you become more and more successful at motivating yourself, do not be afraid to start creating bigger goals for yourself. It’s all up to you to motivate yourself. Remember, motivation is the key to reaching your goals.
