Bible Verses About Authority: If You Don’t Listen to Authority Now, You’ll Hate Yourself Later
Some people have a problem with authority. I don’t know, for some reason they just can’t get themselves to listen and take advice from someone in a higher position, even if it’s for their own good. Either the advice comes in one ear and quickly out the other, or they simply don’t listen at all. Or worse they’d fight back and hate you for trying to talk them out of trouble in the first place.
Man has always had a problem with authority. You must remember that in the Bible verses not everyone believed, or wanted to believe, God’s presence in their lives and in the universe. He had a plan for everyone. But not everyone wanted to be part of that plan. Some particular people, especially kings, wanted no part in listening to anyone other than themselves. All this is evident in what the Bible verses say about authority.
It is obvious that a group won’t be able to survive without a leader, and vice versa. Which is why God had put certain people in the position of authority. For example, Moses during the flight of the Israelites from the Egyptians.
But you got to admit, taking orders and showing submission to someone in authority is by no means easy. Few people like to be told what to do or how to do something. But in any case, the Bible verses favor those who submit to the right authority. The Israelites were saved because they believed in Moses and that God would spare them from the hands of their enemies.
Here are a few sample Bible verses about authority:
“The LORD hath prepared his throne in the heavens; and his kingdom ruleth over all.” Psalm 103:19
“And he said unto him, Well, thou good servant: because thou hast been faithful in a very little, have thou authority over ten cities.” Luke 19:17
“Children, obey your parents in all things, for this is well pleasing to the Lord.” Colossians 3:20
“And he that curseth his father, or his mother, shall surely be put to death.” Exodus 21:17
“Be obedient to those who are taking the lead among you and be submissive, for they are keeping watch over your souls as those who will render an account; that they may do this with joy and not with sighing, for this would be damaging to you.” Hebrews 13:17
So okay, putting someone to death was a little overboard, but it does get the point across. God asks for us to choose the right leader who would command us and keep “watch over [our] souls”. Without a leader, the majority would be lost, and the same is true the other way around. Strong leadership is the work of both the leader and his constituents.
Whenever you feel like going against your authority, take time to seek guidance from the Bible verses. You can’t go wrong to seek the advice of the Lord on this matter.
