Babies are the cutest. At some point in our lives almost everybody wants to have a baby. It’s a fact of life. It is embedded in our genes. God wants us to procreate, and babies are the ultimate symbol of procreation. The setting of the movie “Children of Men” where every single woman has become barren and no longer able to give birth to babies is a horrible realization of the end of the world. The movie itself is considered post-apocalyptic.

Think about it. People are naturally attracted to babies. Folks of all ages – little kids to grandma and grandpa – all crowd over to the mother showing her baby to the world for the first time. Nobody can resist smiling to see a baby show its first signs of recognition or say its very first words. Conversely, nothing worries us more than the cries of an awakened baby alone in its room.

On the other hand, some people simply don’t appreciate babies, even little children. They show interest for a while, and then they back off. These individuals have very thin patience. They get annoyed easily at the noise and ruckus babies and small children tend to make. I know a few people who are exactly like this.

But as adults, we must learn to understand that babies are simply doing pretty much the only thing can do to get our attention. The Bible verses teaches us to love and care for babies, whether our own or not. God wants us to protect babies and little children as they are His gifts to us.

Here are some sample Bible verses about babies.

“Sons are a heritage from the LORD, children a reward from him.” Psalm 127:3

“At that time Jesus said, “I praise you, Father, Lord of heaven and earth, because you have hidden these things from the wise and learned, and have revealed them to little children.”” Matthew 11:25

“Jesus said, “Let the little children come to me, and do not hinder them, for the kingdom of heaven belongs to such as these.”” Matthew 19:14

“Like newborn babies, crave pure spiritual milk, so that by it you may grow up in your salvation” 1 Peter 2:2 (NIV)

“And I will give children to be their princes, and babes shall rule over them.” Isaiah 3:4 (KJV)

“Before I formed you in the womb I knew you, and before you were born, I consecrated you…” Jeremiah 1:5

That last quote is particularly telling. It’s as if the Bible verses are speaking directly about abortion, which is another sensitive issue in the Christian belief and community. God by all means denounce abortion.

Back to the topic of babies. As stated in the Bible verses, we must care for babies for it is as the Lord said, “the kingdom of heaven belongs to such as these”. Babies can be a bit too playful sometimes. If you find yourself losing patience, take comfort in the Bible verses and seek the guidance of the Lord.
