Carpet Cleaning Websites – What You Need To Know?
Do you own a carpet cleaning business? Are looking to start one up? Then you need a website. Not only do you need a website, but you need a website that really brings in lots of new customers. Consider this:
“Nielson-Online.com says 81% of customers are going to the Internet first to find out more about a business. The Yellow Pages are dead. Position yourself now to beat the competition.”
Most carpet cleaners are still spending ridiculous amounts of money on yellow page ads each year. I am sure that if you have a full page colored ad in the local yellow pages, you will get some calls. But if only 19% of customers are searching the phone book then you are missing out big time.
What if you could spend a quarter of what you spend on yellow pages and generate twice as many calls? This is possible. For my carpet cleaning business I don’t even think about yellow page advertising. In the busy season my website brings in more business than I can handle.
Hire Someone or Do it Yourself?
It comes down to whether or not you want to put in the time and effort or pay someone else to avoid the hassle.
The benefits to creating your own website include: saving money and having complete control over the design and content. If you have computer skills and an eye for design then you may want to go this route. To complete the project quickly and to make sure it looks professional I recommend using WordPress as the platform. There is a definitely a learning curve, but with WordPress you don’t have to master complicated programming code or buy any special software. All you need is a good hosting service that supports WordPress and a willingness to learn how to use it.
If you decide to hire someone it will save you a lot of time and energy. When you are searching for a web designer make sure that you get samples of their work. Also, make sure they understand your business and have built sites for other carpet cleaners in the past. You also want to make sure they are not trying to sell you on bunch of fancy extras like Flash, Animations, etc. Fast and professional is what customers respond to. Animations slow the load time down. I also recommend you hire someone that is willing to train you on how to add content or make changes. If you have to pay someone every time something changed, you will go broke quick.
If you really want to excel in the competitive carpet cleaning industry then you need to market yourself online. In the coming years it will less of an option and more of a necessity. Position yourself now and get a leg up on the competition. Also, keep in mind that just having a website won’t generate calls. You also need to rank with the search engines. So, learn SEO or hire someone that knows what they are doing. Don’t pay more than $50/month.
