Dealing With Rejection

We all have to deal with rejection at some point in our lives. It could be dealing with rejection from our parents fro not getting good grades. Or dealing with rejection from our friends for not being able to fit in the crowd. Rejection can also come from our boss at work for not being able to do our job well. It will come in varying degrees and the real question is, how do we deal with it?

You cannot avoid rejection but you can certainly heal from the pain that it might cause you. And one of the most helpful process of getting over the pain would be talking to people about it. Talk to your family and friends about your feelings from being rejected. It helps to be able to communicate to people how you feel instead of just keeping it to yourself. When you have friends and families that support you, your healing process from the pain will be quicker than you think.

Keep a journal where you can write down all your feeling and the events that you have gone through. This is another way letting all the negativity out instead of just keeping it inside yourself. The good thing about writing in your journal is, no matter how bad the things that you write are, there will be no limits as to what you want to write down. Make your diary a catharsis for your emotions instead of letting it all out in a negative way. You can also try writing the person who rejected you a letter. Write down all the bad feeling that you feel on the letter but do not send the letter to that person. The purpose of sending that person a letter without sending it to him is for you to let all your bad feelings out and get rid of them. This will help you move on from the hurt that you felt for being rejected.

If paper doesn’t work for you, you might want to try avoiding places where you might run into the person who rejected you. When you haven’t gotten over your feelings, it won’t be so nice if you run into that person because you might get carried away by your emotions and get confrontational. Also avoid the common friends that you have with that person. This is just to avoid any awkward situation they might place you in. They might ask you questions which you’re not really ready to answer. Take a different route when going to places you usually go to. That way, you will not run into familiar places or people who would remind you of the person who rejected you.

Try not to attempt to control the other person. You might find yourself exerting effort in controlling the other person especially if he or she is close to you. By doing this, you are only placing yourself in a position where you could be rejected again.

As you try to get over your feelings of rejection, bear in mind that you have to take good care of yourself as well. Your negative feelings can be physically draining too so it’s important that you eat healthy and nutritious food. Get enough sleep and enough exercise too. Proper sleep and good exercise will help you feel much better about yourself.
