Home Interior Design for the 21st Century
Trends are something that we cannot avoid, and they can be influenced by any number of ways in this day and age. Today, this article will be talking about the interior design industry, and how it has been affected by the moving trends all over the world. For one thing, if we are to be looking at the many elements of this industry, we notice that it has moved into a more post modern direction, and here we will be looking at what this concept actually means when looking at the industry as a whole.
There is a difference between modern and post modern. For one thing, modern design elements in interior design can only mean a few things. One thing that it always means is that it needs to be structured and clean, with use of spaces and moving away from the cluttered look. Immaculate colours are more the feature here, and anything wild and amazing is moved aside for the simple and clean. Not to be mistaken with minimalist movements in design, modern is all about structure and appeal to a wide cross section of society, an era that can be recognised with just one look and the ability to utilize clean spaces as part of the design element.
We cannot say that modern is minimalist, because of the fact that there are so many elements inside the interior design. Minimalist is more of a movement that sees less is more, and wide spaces as areas for movement and inspiration. Living rooms that are minimalist play less with furniture and more with spatial elements. Modern homes might be imbued with a wide variety of furniture and elements, but they will seem quite uniform and factory fresh at the end of the day.
Post modern is quite a different concept in the fact that it does not follow any element or any sort of trend. Post modern normally means that there is no structure to the design, that it does not follow any one rule. It allows for more freedom of expression, and it allows for different themes to exist in a single space. You could have, for one example, a house that is modern, exotic and urban under a single roof. This is something that might not have been allowed in stricter school of thoughts at the end of the day. Remember, home design for the 21st century has become more post modern, because of the fact of the different influences that have been happening and the fact that media has become a muse for our own expression.
If you need to find out more information about this, you can always look up the design trends that have been happening in Asia and Europe in the interior design industry, and from there, compare how they move. You might be surprised that in Europe, more Asian and exotic elements are getting into the picture, while here; we are beginning to cherish simplicity in modern design.
