The Top Five RV Movies

Here is an entertaining list of “top five movies” of some of the best RV themed movies out there. Take a look and see which one catches your attention.

1. About Schmidt

Based on the novel by Louis Begley, this drama stars Jack Nicholson and is about a man named Warren Schmidt who finds out that his daughter is engaged to a man he doesn’t approve of. Consequently, he decides to go on a road trip in a Winnebago in order to convince her not to marry him. Already on the way, he calls his daughter to tell her he’s on the way, but she insists on his arriving shortly before the already planned wedding. So, he travels about and ends up learning something important about himself.

Interestingly, many of the people featured in the film are local residents of the area who portray their real life professions. This fact adds an interesting twist on things and gives the movies a special touch that no doubt was much of the reason that this film was so highly acclaimed.

2. Traffic
This French classic is a charming tale about a quirky inventor, Mr. Hulot, who designs an ingenious RV van that includes clever features for an auto show. The van doesn’t quite get finished enough for him to drive it to the show, so he, a mechanic, and a representative from the “Altra” company, have to transport the van to the car show themselves. The mishaps that befall them along the way are preposterously funny and win you over to the side of this motley crew of unlikely cohorts.

When the Howards get fed up with their yuppie lives, they decide to liquidate all the assets and leave everything else behind so that they can travel across America in a Winnebago RV. Shortly after they start their journey of self discovery, they end up losing everything, and decide maybe their old life wasn’t as bad as they had thought.

4. Stripes
Bill Murry stars in this uproarious comedy about a guy who, after having the worst day of his life, realizes that a change is in order. After watching a recruiting ad for the U.S. Army, he decides that he needs to go to the recruiting office and sign up for basic training so that he can get in shape and meet girls. He convinces his best friend Russel to join with him so that he too can bask in the multiple benefits of basic training.
