Using the Right Paint Brush is Important

If you have a big painting job ahead of you that you plan on tackling all by yourself here are some quick tips about using the right type of paint brush.

First off all let me tell you the bad things that can happen if you use a terrible paint brush.

1. Hand Cramps – This I put at number one because they hurt and a poorly designed brush will cause hand cramps much quicker then a nice paint brush.

2. Uneven paint – Cheap brushes do not distribute the paint evenly on the surface. This will mean you will need far more brush strokes to get it right… This wastes a lot of time.

3. Bristles in your paint. Cheap paint brushes shed and you do not want one or two bristles painted into your wall. That looks terrible and tacky.

4. Wrong sizes means big hassles.

Here are a few things to remember when picking out a good paint brush.

1. Use the right size brush for the right size project. If you are hand painting a huge section don’t use a 2 inch brush. If you are painting a small intricate section be sure to use a brush that will work.

2. Using the right style brush will be important. When you are cutting in using a flat brush can cause you problems. Using an angled brush will help you stay within the lines and complete the job much quicker.

3. Do not go cheap. Typically the cheaper paint brushes will shed, fall apart, not apply evenly and in the end cost you more money because you will probably go buy another brush.

And remember when you are done painting to immediately clean your brush and store it in a dry area. A quality paint brush can last you a long time.

You can be sure to pick out the right brush by visiting your local paint shop and ask them a lot of questions. Ask them what brush they use. What brush they would suggest and give them your price point. Most of them are very educated and are more than willing to help you out with your project. There are a lot of choices to be made about painting so get some help.

Do not worry about spending some money on a quality brush. If you take care of it, it will last a very long time. A cheap brush will be done after one use and you will be out that money. Not to mention next time you have to paint you will have to buy another brush.

Here is a tip. Don’t go buy a brush from walmart. Go to a paint shop. A good paint brush really does make a difference.

So head out there and tackle your next big paint project. Grab your paint, paint brush and put on your dirty clothes and get to work. Remember if the job is too big you can always call for help, but sometimes it is worth going at it yourself.
