A Rapidly Increasing Need For Licensed Practical Nurses

Nurses have always been in demand in any part of the world yet the demand is never met and the shortage of nursing staff is creating immense problems in hospitals. Anyone who aspires to be a licensed practical nurse will never have to worry about job security because career prospects for LPN’s are very bright and much higher when compared to other nursing sectors.

The growing population of sick people is a major concern to health authorities, especially because of the difference between the numbers of patients that are being admitted to hospitals daily against the nurses that are available to take care of them. This has unfortunately resulted in most patients being turned away from hospitals or worse still discharged before they are truly cured due to the shortage of trained and licensed practical nurses.

All young people who are interested in making a career out of nursing should give serious thought to becoming a licensed practical nurse where the predicted number of job opportunities are said to increase at least by 15% in the coming years. An LPN will have absolutely no problem in finding employment in private hospitals or leading health care centers that are desperately in need of licensed practical nurses.

A student nurse who enrolls in a Practical Nursing school can obtain her diploma or degree which will enable her to practice nursing in any of the above institutions. The best part of being a LPN is that the course takes less than one year and the subjects that have to be studied include anatomy, biology, nutrition, pediatrics, obstetrics, physiology, and first aid which will be of great value to a nurse in her chosen profession. An LPN job is where you come into direct contact with the patient where the nurse concerned is responsible for several aspects of the patient’s treatment process from admission until recovery and discharge.

The duties of a licensed practical nurse include checking her vital signs, feeding the patient and collecting samples whenever necessary. This job is also one of the better paying ones with scope for contractual opportunities when nurses are required for home care patients. Once an LPN works in a home taking care of an in-house patient, her reputation is bound to spread creating more such job offers that could come packaged with high wages and attractive benefits. The only downside to these home care jobs is the contract that has to be entered into where the nurse is bound to take care of the patient indefinitely.

Anyone who has the required personal traits such as a desire to help and take care of the sick and infirm, a great deal of patience, a strong personality and the need to be a nurse, should not hesitate to join a nursing school and obtain a diploma to enable her to become a licensed practical nurse. Not only will it give her great personal satisfaction, but will also enable her to draw a decent salary and ensure much more job security than most any other job today.
