Airport Hotels V’s Cheap Airport Parking

When flying out from Manchester Airport I often have a have a dilemma a week or so before my flight, whether to stay in one of the many hotels that surround the Airport perimeters and offer a comfy bed, a wakeup call and most importantly free car parking? Or opt for one of the many off site car parking options? Obviously this dilemma only rears its head depending on the time of my flight, but nether-the-less it is one a have struggled with time and again.

It used to be so easy, get a room for the night and park your car for free and all for less than the parking alone would normally cost, and considerably less than a taxi to and from the airport. However, the decision is gradually getting harder with the selection of cheap Manchester Airport parking options that are becoming available such as individual companies and the numerous car park booking agents that offer a great price comparison service. This, coupled with the desire of the hotels to try and attract back some of the business they are losing to the off-site car parking at airports all around the country, not just in Manchester, by slashing their prices for a 1 night stay in mid week, what now really is the best and cheapest Manchester Airport parking option?

My research took me to investigate 2 hotels situated close to Manchester Airport and that offered unlimited free parking with a nights stay. My trip was going to last 8 nights plus the one in the Manchester Airport Hotel, so in essence I needed 8 days parking.

The first hotel offered me a room for £55 per night and would kindly keep my car for 15 nights if I so desired? Wow, if I was going away for two weeks that would work out at less than £4 per night! That’s cheap Manchester Airport parking if ever I saw it, and with a bed to boot too. However, it was a few miles from the airport and after a few calculations I predicted it would cost me about £10 in a taxi each way to and from the airport, so i had to factor that into my costs, but still just over a fiver a day, if I was going for 2 weeks, but closer to ten for the 8 nights I wanted

The second hotel I found was a lot nearer the Airport and would offer me a room and 8 nights parking, plus a 10 minute bus ride to Manchester Airport for £45 per night. Not a bad deal, just under £6 a night for the car and a free transfer. But how would this compare to the Manchester Airport Parking sites?

I headed straight for one of the many price comparison sites you can easily find on the search engines. A quick search on Manchester Airport Parking returned me a bevy of results, with the cheapest option for my 8 days supplied at £19.50 (£2.44 / day) however, with this I factored in the 20 minute bus transfer and decided to check out the next result for my cheap Manchester Airport parking. This was £23.50 (£2.94 / day). Although the first company was the cheapest Manchester Airport parking, I felt i could swallow the extra 50p a day to be less than five minutes from the airport terminals.

So there you have it, off-site airport parking is still half the price of booking a hotel for parking purposes, and the amount of choice and close proximity to the airports make them the more convenient option also. However, the hotels would become a lot more competitive the longer your trip and at the end of the day it really does depend on the time of your flight and how far you need to travel.
