Baby Shower Planning Ideas
Planning for a baby shower can be exciting and a fun experience. As in all events, planning the baby shower by writing down what you expect to spend before commiting yourself to a schedule and agenda is often wise as some baby showers can turn into an expensive venture for the party giver. Usually, though, baby showers are given by a group of women friends who share the cost of the event.
A baby shower needs to have some sort of munchable treats for the ladies as they sit and talk and share stories about their baby showers. If you plan your baby shower during lunch, late lunch, or early evening some of the women might expect something more substantial than bowls of potato chips, pretzels, M & M’s and punch. Decide on what you will serve and stick to it. If you have a table decorated to collect the baby shower gifts or money cards, you can also decorate the table with the baby shower favors that you plan to pass out. Actually, letting the ladies pick a baby shower favor when they deposit their gift on the gift table is a nice way of exchanging gifts, as it were.
Baby shower gifts are not that difficult to make or to order. If you and your group of baby shower givers are crafty, finding figurines that can be ordered or bought to equal all of your guest list is the first step to making adorable and lasting baby shower favors. Adding sprigs of corded plastic babies breath joined to a mesh balloon filled with mints of both blue and pink makes for a sweet gift that can be used later depending on the ornament. Some people choose tiny little bud vases that can be used later to hold toothpicks or small sprigs of violets for a table setting for tea or supper.
The colors for your baby shower should depend on whether you know the sex of the baby. Obviously, if you are planning a baby shower for a girl, the traditional colors are pink and occassionally orange although few people use it. Most showers use yellow and green which are neutral colors when it comes to gender. The baby shower planned for a boy is blue, not any blue, but a powder blue. The only other colors that are etiquettely acceptable for a male boy shower is white. Of course, all societies have their own color designations, and those are just some of the better known cultural color allusions to gender.
Baby showers do not require formal tables to be set for the women to sit while enjoying treats and each other’s company. But the room can be decorated with paper mache ribbons and balloon and even small stuffed animals in strategica areas to make a motiff of sorts. Small tables with treats can be situated close to couches, armchairs, extra chairs or wherever invited guests will be seated for easy access by the guests. Punch can be served in trays by the hostess and should have a taste of daiquiri and if not daiquiri, lime juice.
