Big Lake is a beautiful little community located in Washington, in Skagit County. It is situated toward the northwestern corner of the state, just north-east of Mount Vernon off of the scenic State Route 9. The population in the area is approximately 1,200, which makes it just small enough to boast an intimate feel, while still being one of the largest in the area. You can raft down the white-water rapids of Pilchuck Creek if you want something more heart-pounding than golf. This sparkling river offers rapids from class II to V, and you can raft as long as you want, anywhere from 1 to six miles long. This river is great for beginner rafters and the ones that want more of a challenge, and is huge fun for anyone who likes the great outdoors.

There is a resort along the north western shore that is visited by enthusiasts all year round. Big Lake Lodge is available for stunning weddings and events. The backdrop of water views, lush forest and native greenery makes for great photo opportunities. From the resort, you can get great views of Devil’s Mountain on a nice day. Lots of people come to this resort specifically to be close to Lake Chelan National Recreation Area. It is considered part of the North Cascade National Park, and offers all kinds of activities for the outdoorsy types. Whether you are a rock-climber, a camper, a hiker, a mountain biker or a jogger, these parks are perfect for you.

Homes in Big Lake vary hugely, and come in all sorts of shapes and sizes. Because the lake spans such a great amount of area, (it is long and skinny) there are a fair amount of waterfront homes. Waterfront homes in Big Lake aren’t on the market a ton of the time, because they are fairly highly sought-after. Some of these gorgeous houses feature their own docks and beaches, and often have panoramic views of the surrounding area. There are also smaller, more historic homes in the area that have a cozy, private feel.
