Deadly Disease – Cervical Cancer
Cervical is the one of the most common malignancy that is increasingly affecting women all the across world and is claiming their lives. According to a survey conducted it is revealed that 34% of the cancer among women relates to cervical cancer. It is also estimated that more than 5, 00,000 women annually are being detected with the disease. Though women of all ages bear the disease risk but cervical cancer most charged women in the age group of 30 to 55, and 47 years being the average age. But most of us do not really know what cervical cancer is. Some of us even assume that it must be relating to the spinal cord on our neck. But it has nothing to do with it.
Cervical cancer basically relates to development of cancer cells in the cervical tissues. Now what is a cervical tissue? Cervical tissues are tissues which are present in the cervix region and are made of building blocks which are cells. Cervix is a very vital and critical part of a women reproductive system. It is the lower part of the uterus which connects the body of the uterus to the vagina. In simple terms it is a very important passage way. During menstrual periods, bloods flows in from the uterus to the cervix and then finally being removed by the vagina. At the time of sex, cervix makes mucous which aids the movement of sperm to the uterus so that egg can be fertilized and it extremely aids during pregnancy by closing up tightly so that the baby can be safe in the uterus.
Generally what happens is that normal cells grow and divide to form new cells as the body demands them. As the normal cells grow old or die, new cells take their places. But at times, the process goes wrong and new cells develop when it is not needed and old cells also continue to function. The buildup of extra cells forms a mass of tissue or growth which takes the form of tumor which is malignant or benign. Benign is gentle and are not harmful. They are not believed to invade other areas and thus do not pose life threat. On the other hand malignant growth is nothing but cervical cancer.
They are known to:
-Invade nearby organs and tissues
-Spread to the other parts of the body
-Poses a life threat
Some reasons which increases the risk factor of the disease:
-HPV Infection – HPV is a group of virus that infects the cervix region. These viruses are generally acquired by the way of sexual contact. The infection do not clear up on their own and pave way for cervical cancer.
-Sexual History – Women who have had intercourse with many sexual partners bear a greater risk towards cervical cancer. Moreover having intercourse with a partner who has had sex with many partners also pushes the risk factor.
-Use of birth control pills for long period of time also increases the risk towards the disease.
