How to Be a Smart Party Host

There is no doubt that parties are fun. However, it can also stress you out especially if you are the host. There are numbers of challenges that can happen along the way even if you planned your party to the smallest detail. Planning is not enough. You also have to prepare for minor issues before, during and after the party.

Not enough food

What would you do if more people will turn up to your party than what you initially planned for? When you plan your party, the first thing that you take into consideration is the number of people who are going to attend. Although unlikely, there is a chance that you will run out of food or your guests are hungrier than expected and most of the food is already gone at the beginning of your party. You should have a backup plan in case something like this happens. Before your party, check restaurants in your area to see which ones can deliver at the last minute. Have their numbers ready so that if ever you need reinforcement, you can simply make a call and have more food delivered.

Dealing with leftovers

A very common scenario after a party is containers full of leftovers. If you have more leftovers than what you can eat in the next few days, it is better to share them with your guests rather than throwing them to the trash. If you are concerned about your fine chinas and serving pieces, plan ahead and prepare disposable containers where you can put all your leftover food for your guests to take home. This way you will not have to worry about collecting your dishes days after the party.

Cleaning

Any party host will tell you that the cleaning is their least favorite part of hosting parties. Unless you hire a caterer, you will be stuck with counters full of dirty dishes, glasses all over the house, overflowing trash cans, and pieces of food and trash everywhere. Tidying up can be a tedious job. To minimize the cleaning after the party, you can plan ahead and prepare enough containers for the trash. It would also help if you inform your guests where to put their trash, empty glasses, and plates during the party so that you don’t have to deal with all the mess when the party is over. Being the host does not mean you have to do all the cleaning yourself. Before the party, you can request some of your friends to help out in the cleaning. Friends will gladly give you a hand with the dishes or the trash. However, give them the chance to say no. it is not polite to impose on such matters.

Wine glass charms

Wine glasses are very in demand in parties. It is mostly because guests tend to “lose” their glass and when they do, you would have to give them another one. To avoid taking out and cleaning more glasses, use wine glass charms. This will help your guests identify their glass and keep them from asking for another one. Place the charms on the glasses before your party so that your guests will not have to wait for their drinks while you’re putting them on.
