Shaping Up After Baby Arrives
So you are pregnant and are soon to deliver you little bundle of pride and joy. That twenty-five or thirty pounds that you gained will be gone. No more fat clothes as you have come to call all those ‘grow with you’ slacks and tops. All those beautiful outfits hanging in your closet will be yours to enjoy once again.
The baby is nearly a month old and an absolute darling. Everything you and your husband have ever dreamed of. Your Mom, sweetheart that she is has offered to babysit while you go out and have lunch with friends. With anticipation you reach for one of your favorite outfits. Wait, this can’t be! Who washed this outfit and shrunk it? You can’t even get the zipper up! With dread you run into the bathroom and step on the scale. With dread in your heart, you step off and then back on again. This cannot be an accurate number because it says you have only lost ten pounds. Help, what do you do now?
Relax. There are many factors still at work here. Yes, you have had your baby but all those changes that took place in your body can be as quickly undone. The older you is still there and you can get her back following some simple advice. You may have to exercise and diet some and if you are a breastfeeding Mom you rid yourself of five hundred calories every time the baby eats. No crash diets though. When breastfeeding the nutrients that the baby needs come from you, so you have to eat sensibly.
If you are feeling up to it you can start by working out. Maybe something not too difficult at first but you can increase to exercises a bit more difficult as you continue to build your stamina. Besides the weight, your hips, for example, have widened a bit due to the birth of the baby. It will all go back to normal. Just be patient and give Mother Nature time to do her thing. Help her out by working with her and everything will return to pre-baby dimensions.
What you eat can actually aid you in your weight loss. Healthy nutritional snacks of fruits and vegetables along with a balanced diet at mealtime will help the pounds to come off. You may also like to join a gym and workout regularly. Some people need the incentive of others working out in order to stick to their weight loss regimen. Thirty minutes a day, three times a week, is a good rule of thumb to follow no matter what you do. Walking is great and walking uphill is even better. Join some Yoga classes. It relieves stress and by relieving stress, you often eat less.
Regardless of whichever method you choose remember to give it time. It took you nine months to get this way and your body needs time. Losing just a little weight at a time will help you to keep it off. Rest assured. if you are determined enough, you will get your old figure back.
