The Best Pickup Line Ever?
It probably is: “Hi, how’s it going?”
What, you say? I don’t have to memorize a bunch of clever, witty, humorous lines or magic tricks?
No. I’m not saying that you shouldn’t. It definitely helps to have something funny to say to break the ice on occasion. And a clever magic trick is always guaranteed to catch someone’s attention, but 9 times out of 10, a simple, honest approach is going to work best for you.
It can be situational, as well.
Say you are in the mall and you see a gorgeous woman sitting in the food court with a coffee. Unless she appears to be in a heated conversation with whomever she is with, there is absolutely nothing wrong with going up to her and saying, very politely:
“I’m sorry to interrupt, but I would kick myself if I walked out of here without saying hi. You really caught my eye (for whatever reason) and I wanted to introduce myself. I’m Danny.”
There is a good chance that the woman will respond favorably to this approach.
Take another situation, where you are in a bar and see a woman across the room who catches your eye.
Same idea. Walk up to her and say, “Hey, how’s it going? I saw you from across the room and just had to come say hello. I saw you laughing and know I needed to meet you.”
What woman is not going to be flattered by that and want to see what else you have to say?
The absolute key to success is making it honest. You can’t tell every girl you approach you liked her laugh. You have to observe something that you find attractive about her, that truly is what makes you want to approach her and then tell her that.
It is OK to be honest and say you would have regretted it if you hadn’t taken a minute to meet her. That is just genuine and I think women really appreciate that honesty. Especially when other guys may be using really, bad, really cheesy pick up lines.
A Chicago Tribune article quoted pick up artist extraordinaire Adam Lyons mentioned the absolute worst pickup line he ever had heard. It went something like this: A guy at a bar walks up to a woman who is alone and seems bored. He asks her if she is having fun. When she says she is, the guy responds: “You should let your face know.”
Lyons described that pickup line as “ridiculously horrible.”
He’s right. Nothing like insulting a girl to get her to like you. Doesn’t work. You can be genuine, honest and keep it simple and have a better chance of success.
Sometimes you can ask a question if you need something a little meatier. For instance, you can ask her where the best coffee shop in the area is. But only do this, if it is a real question. Not something you just made up off the cuff.
But that should be a default opener. Next time, try a simple hello and see what happens from there.
