10 Great First Dates

The eternal question is where to take that gal on your first date. In the past, it was easy. Guys told girls to dinner and a movie. That is no longer the case for several reasons.

Why spend a ton of money when you don’t know if you are going to hit it off or hate each other and might be taking another girl out the next night. Nobody can afford to live that way.

And there is so much pressure on a date like this that it becomes awkward and uncomfortable for both the guy and the girl.

Here are 10 great ideas for a first date. Notice that none of them involve taking a girl to a club or party, either.

If you want the first date to be inexpensive, low-pressure and a way to really get to know one another, try one of the following:

1. Your place. Not hers. You can’t control the environment at her place. Maybe she lives at home with overbearing parents or maybe she lives in an apartment with an obnoxious roommate who monopolizes the time. Either way, you are not comfortable and able to get to know each other. So I suggest you kick your roommates or family out for the evening and maybe have her over to make dinner together or even something like baking cookies. A good way to get to know each other.

2. A Coffee shop. A cafe is low key, a good environment for conversation and a good way for you to show you know hip, fun places to hang out. You can always head out to another one of the date ideas afterward.

3. A walk or the park. If you have a dog, take the dog for a walk. Do you live near someplace scenic, like a meadow or a beach? Take here there. You can even pack a picnic lunch to eat on the beach or in the park. Again, low-key, inexpensive and fun.

4. A wine bar or pub for a drink or cocktail lounge. A good way to break the ice with a drink at a place you have researched beforehand for its cool quotient. In addition, you probably will be more comfortable and score social value points if you know the bartender or wait staff. Again, you can use this as the meeting place and either stay there or head to another location mentioned in some of these other suggestions.

5. An active adventure: go karts, hiking, riding bikes, rafting or tubing, kayaking, tennis, play Frisbee, anything that you already like to do, invite the girl to do it with you. It will show you are interesting.

6. A museum or art gallery. Good for conversation and shows you are cultured.

7. A ball game. Enough said. Just. Plain. Fun.

8. Brunch. A good alternative to dinner if you are a foodie and enjoy eating out.

9. Outdoor concert or live music. Always a winner.

10. Comedy club. Once she’s laughing, you both will have a good time.
