Avoiding Sellers Remorse by Selling Your Home Right

Sellers are often times sad that they sold their home. When a seller is sad about selling their home, it is called sellers remorse. In American consumer culture, we most often times hear about consumer remorse where a poor unsuspecting college student female goes to the mall, wants to just look around, meets the right saleswoman who absolutely convinces her that she has to have the newest legally blonde outfit and then realizes she just spent her food money for over a week as she is driving home. The difference is, a lot of times a buyer can take back an item they purchased whereas a seller cannot redeem any item that they sell, usually.

The feeling of absolute helplessness is a feeling that a seller does not want to feel from selling their home. A home is different any other type of consumer good that an individual can buy. A home has super benefits because of the sentiments it offers. A home has memories of children, or love, or laughter, and a never ending list of memories that are hard to part with.

The number one way people began to feel seller’s remorse is when they really aren’t selling their home. A great example of this a man who is looking to get refinanced and puts his home up for sale to see what the price of the home is and then somehow suddenly sees his home in escrow.

This is a hard thing that happens more often than one would think. Sellers remorse will often cause a seller to back out before the home closes. This is incredibly harsh reality for realtors who spend a considerable amount of time, effort and money getting the home advertised, marketed, viewed and offered on. Realtors often perform a free service anyways where they do a comparative market analysis or a CMA where they can tentatively price the home according to the competition or other homes in the neighborhood.

Avoiding seller’s remorse is an absolutely critical part of being in the real estate market. It is a harsh reality to sign away a home of decades for a reason that is not totally thought through. In order to avoid seller’s remorse there are several things one should do.

First the seller should have a personally fulfilling and strong reason for selling their home. They must be absolutely certain that it is what they want. On top of that, having a plan on what will happen after the home is sold is even more important. When one is selling a home with a plan on what will happen after the dotted line is signed, then it can be a lot easier to back out at the last second causing everyone involved high costs and hard feelings.

Another way to truly help one see if they really should sell their home is to make a list of all the benefits of selling an all the benefits of staying. If the benefits of staying are heavier than selling, then don’t sell, even if some of the benefits of selling are pretty great.
