Dating Advice: Five Subtle Ways to Impress Him at Dinner
So he’s asked you out to dinner, or perhaps you asked him? Either way this is a great chance to impress your date and have a really good time. Dating at a restaurant can make some people nervous, but you should put any worries to one side. Relax, have fun, and take note of these simple tips and he’ll be eating out of your hand, as well as whatever chef has prepared for you both.
1) Let him choose the restaurant.
If he wants to take you to a ‘nice little place he knows’ then by all means let him. It’ll be a surprise for you and the chances are he’s spent plenty of time thinking about it. Dating at a restaurant suggests he’s becoming increasingly interested in you, so here’s your chance to find out how he’s hoping to impress you. However, if when you arrive you are thinking ‘Why!?’ try to keep your thoughts to yourself. Lie if you have to, be kind, he’ll be crushed if you hammer his plans at this stage.
2) Be prepared to talk (let him eat).
The way to a man’s heart is indeed through his stomach. Hopefully he’ll be interested in talking to you, but also he’ll be looking forward to a good nosh. Indulge his desire for both and allow him to eat his food by adding your half to the conversation. He’ll be grateful if you don’t bombard him with questions and you don’t really want him to be talking with his mouth full. So feel free to chat away and let the poor boy have some food.
3) Caress the stem of the glass.
Show your tactile side by gently rubbing your hand up and down the stem of your wine glass before you take a sip. It’s a little suggestive but not over the top. Dating at a restaurant should be about filling his thoughts with desire, and that’s not just for the dessert menu.
4) Wipe his chin.
The mucky pup might spill some food down his chin and he wouldn’t be the first man not to notice. But you can’t be sitting there all night looking at a glob of soup resting in his goatee. If this happens, pick up your napkin and wipe the chap’s chin for him. It won’t be the first time a woman has done that for him, but other than that try not to behave like his mother – it’s too soon!
5) Let him pay.
Let’s presume you don’t fancy dating with a tight wad or your feminism isn’t so over-zealous that the idea of a man paying doesn’t appall you. If this is the case then by all means let him pay for the meal, you’ll feel a lot better about it – especially if you didn’t really enjoy your food! Most men have no problem in getting the bill and forking out the cash on a first date. You’ll also get a chance to sneak a look at his credit card – you never know – it might be a flash one.
