Health Benefits of Natural Organic Bedding

Making the shift from synthetic products to organic ones is not just for the sake of fashion!

Organic products have numerous advantages over artificial ones, and it is just a matter of time before most of the products we use at home will be certified as organic. We already have a great number of homes that have made the transition and are conscious about what they buy, use, and recycle, and many other homes are slowly making the change. One of the key drivers for that change is the health benefits offered by organic products, and one example would be natural organic bedding.

Most of the bedding we use at home contains synthetic products that are not naturally renewable. In addition to being a burden on our planet and its resources, these materials are breeding grounds for health hazards like dust mites and various allergens. One of the most common allergy forms – Asthma – has its origins in our bedding, and a frequent advice doctors give patients is to change their bedding at home. Some of the popular materials used in the construction of natural bedding – like wool, silk, and latex rubber – don’t allow for accumulation of dust mites. They are also resistant to several other kinds of allergens. Another material that is gaining popularity nowadays is silk. Silk has numerous health benefits, and in addition to being allergen resistant, it is also capable of regulating body heat by default!

Another genre of health benefits from organic bedding has to do with better sleep. A common complaint is of a damp mattress. People who sweat excessively have trouble sleeping due to the dampness they feel in their mattress, blanket, and on their pillows. The dampness also comes with its own unique smell, and troubles people who share the bed. Organic bedding has the advantage of being able to absorb dampness without giving rise to smell. Natural materials have the capability of resisting dampness, and for people living in humid regions, this is a major boon! Humidity seeps into the synthetics in the mattress and creates new troubles – like mold and fungus growth – in addition to being unhygienic to sleep on. Organic bedding does not get damp – even if the climate is humid, and that gives a fresh feel while sleeping.

Since we spend over a third of our lives in bed, the time spent there has a direct impact on the other two-thirds. Doctors over the ages have been stressing on the fact that a peaceful sleep of 6-8 hours will help the body naturally heal itself. Most of the lifestyle disorders we are faced with – from stress to various other complications – can be cured by peaceful sleep; and natural bedding is a step in the right direction.

There are several kinds of organic bedding available. A customer can either choose to change his entire bedding and replace it with a new natural one, or they can go in for a product that comes in the form of a sleeve that can be used on top of the existing bedding at home. Either way, making the change to natural bedding has numerous health benefits, and is a wise decision!
