How Many Jumping Rope Exercises Do You Know?

We have done all this in our childhood but have forgotten all about it on the way to adulthood. Here is a brief recapitulation of the different jumping rope exercises to have fun and burn all the fat stocked in the body. There are about five basic jump rope exercises.

1. The first set of jump rope is the traditional basic forward rope jump. The jump rope should be swung over the head with the feet together and the elbows tucked to the sides. Always keep the rope off the floor while beginning the jump. Repeat this for about five times and then rest for a minute. Then progressively increase the number of jumps over a period of time and gradually reduce the break between the sets to a few bare seconds.

2. The second set of jump rope exercises are the Reverse basic jump rope. Here the direction of the swing of the rope is reversed while the whole process of jumping the rope in the forward direction is retained. This exercise is repeated and a break of a minute is taken. This has to be repeated five times. The speed has to be increased gradually.

3. The next jump rope is very interesting and to an extent challenging. This is the alternate foot jumping rope exercise. This similar to a hop as the rope has to be jumped using only one feet at a time and alternating them after the initial few sets of single jumping rope. The advantage here is that the number of jumps on the rope is increased by alternating the legs.

4. The next set of exercise is probably what you have tried at a boot camp. This is the running jump rope. Here one is doing almost the same things as jumping rope on alternate feet. The addition here is that one need not remain in the same place. One can run and jump rope at the same time.

5. Another challenging rope jump is the double under jump rope. Most of us would have done this jump at the peak of our childhood. Remember how we could slip the rope once for every two jumps. The double under jump is just that. One will have to have gained a certain amount of dexterity with jumping the rope before attempting this jump.

There are several variations on these basic jump rope exercises. In fact there is a cultural aspect to these jump rope exercises. Depending on the neighborhood you belong to one can see a lot of competition amongst the children in performing more complicated and challenging sets of jumping ropes.

One only needs to be inspired by this childhood indulgence of jumping ropes to inculcate it in our everyday exercises routines.
