Living Mother Nature’s Skin Care
There are many living nature skin care products on the market today. As people have learned more about the role that exposure to chemicals plays in cancer and other ailments, they have started to demand products with safer naturally occurring ingredients.
Some companies have listened to those demands and use only the safest ingredients in their products. Other companies are merely capitalizing on and taking advantage of the public’s desire to protect their health.
We have seen a number of new “paraben-free” products on the market. Parabens are artificial preservatives that have been found to lodge in breast cancer tumors. They are present in practically all of the mass produced cosmetics on the market.
Mass production is actually one of the causes of our problems. Producing more costs the companies less. But in order to produce a large amount of a shampoo or body lotion at one time, the companies must use some kind of preservatives.
Naturally occurring preservatives like vitamin E and grape seed extract are effective. But they are also expensive. The accepted practice is to use parabens.
Any true living nature skin care product will be free of parabens and other artificial preservatives. We have examined the ingredients in a number of the paraben-free creams available today. While they are free of parabens, most include a different artificial preservative. Some of which are even more dangerous than parabens.
In addition to the concern about the cancer link, there is the risk of allergic reaction. Artificial preservatives are the most common causes of allergic reactions caused by health and beauty aids. Why so many people are allergic to artificial preservatives is unclear. It may be because they are all derived from petrochemicals or petroleum-based alcohols.
A living nature skin care item should be free of isopropyl, methyl, ethyl and other petroleum-based alcohols. Plant-based alcohols are safe to use on the skin’s surface, but can cause irritation if they are included in large amounts, which brings up another point.
Not all naturally occurring ingredients are safe. Some of the most popular ingredients for living nature skin care and hair care solutions are essential oils. While the name sounds good, they are not necessarily good for your skin’s health.
Essential oils are actually concentrated plant fragrances, not the essential fatty acids necessary for your health. Essential fatty acids are found in foods like seeds, nuts and olives.
Nature’s bounty does not actually include essential oils. They are man-made ingredients created by combining flower petals and water, bringing them to a boil and distilling them to create a concentrated fragrance.
Health experts advise against the use of essential oils directly on the skin’s surface, because they are common allergens. Limonene, citronella and orange oil are among the most irritating. They provide no benefit to the skin’s health or appearance. They simple smell good.
There are plenty of non-allergenic, completely safe and effective ingredients in the natural world. Look for living nature skin care creams that contain Shea butter, grape seed oil and natural vitamin E. Those are good for starters.
