Planning a Baby Shower

Planning a baby shower can be somewhat overwhelming and stressful because you want everything to be perfect. You have many details to worry about such as: who to invite, location, games, decorations, etc. Remember, the purpose of the baby shower is to honor the new mother-to-be and this new life that she is about to bring into the world. It is a joyous occasion that brings close family and friends together. Here are some ideas that I hope will be helpful as you try to plan a baby shower.

Who, What, and Where- Everyone knows that this is a baby shower that you are planning, but nothing else. First you will need to know who is planning on hosting the shower. If you are on a tight budget, I would recommend you ask a couple of close friends or relatives of the mother-to-be to help out. You can divide the tasks among the hostesses. After you decide on who is hosting the shower, you will need to decide on the location of the shower. A couple of ideas for locations are: church, family or friends house, clubhouse, restaurant, etc.

Theme- I absolutely love going to a party that has a well thought out theme. Having a great theme can add so much to the party. A good place to start is to ask the mother-to-be the colors and theme of the baby’s nursery. You can just expand on everything from there. Don’t forget to browse the internet for some cute decoration ideas. You can also go to your local party store to rack up on supplies.

Food- Choosing the right food for the shower is very important. If you plan on having the shower around a meal time (breakfast, lunch, or dinner) you will need to provide a meal instead of just appetizers. If you want to avoid preparing a big meal, have the shower sometime after lunch. If you have multiple people hosting the shower, make a list of some appetizers for everyone to bring. Don’t forget the most important thing, the cake! If you want to save money, another great idea is to make a fun display of cupcakes. This can also be seen as a great decoration on the table.

Games- Many baby showers are attended by people who may not know each other. You can start the shower off with an icebreaker to get everyone acquainted. Have guests tell how they know the mother-to-be and how they met. Another game you can play is the messy diaper game. You get 5 diapers and melt 5 different chocolates in each diaper. Have the guests try and identify what the candy is. There are many fun and creative games you can find on the internet.

There are always a few loose ends to tie up on the day of the event. Make sure you make a list so you don’t forget anything. Remember to enjoy the wonderful baby shower you planned and don’t stress!
