Sony PlayStation 3 Slim Review
The PlayStation 3 Slim also popularly know as the PS3 Slim is an excellent game console produced by the electronic giant known by the name of Sony. This is a console that is well worth considering if you are looking to buy a gaming system. What separates it from its predecessors such as the PS3 160GB, is it’s weight. The PS3 is only 7.05lb in weight making it very portable. In fact is is 36 percent lighter than the PS3 160GB. Aside from its light weight it is also a very good looking machine aesthetically. The console can be described as being very stylish and quite sleek, making it a perfect accessory to any contemporary living or games room. This is also slim as it’s name alludes to, especially when compared to the other bulkier PS3 versions and the Xbox 360.
One of the main reasons why people avoided buying PS3 was its cost. The newest PS3 Slim by Sony is not only slim in size but also in price. With the prices down by almost $100, PS3 Slim is much more reasonable than the older PS3. However, not much has changed except the cost. All the major features of PS3 have been retained in PS3 Slim.
The issue of power consumption has been adequately addressed by Sony by employing 45 nm manufacturing process, which reduces power consumption by 36%. The company has been slowly phasing out PS3 by taking away its features one by one. PS3 Slim having almost the same functionalities is a good choice for those looking to replace their older PS3 versions. The matte finish isn’t very appealing, but it’s a better choice over the dust attracting glossy cover. It ensures that dust and fingerprints are kept away, ensuring your PS3 is always looking stylish.
PS3 Slim cannot really be called an upgrade of PS3, rather a revamp. Sony has barely made any changes over the older version. The only noticeable change is the noise made by the disc drive. It seems to be a little louder than in PS3. It’s not a big issue when watching a movie on Blu-ray disc. However, while playing games it can become a little irritating.
Both PS3 and PS3 Slim support playback of MPEG-1, MPEG-2 and MPEG-4 from disc-based media or USB ports. Other than this, it also enables you to see JPEG images. The back of the system has features very similar to PS3. It comes with an Ethernet jack, HDMI output, proprietary AV output of PlayStation and optical digital audio output.
Whether you should consider buying PS3 Slim is a matter of choice and needs. If you have been waiting for PS3 prices to drop, then PS3 Slim provides you the chance to get the same features at a lower cost. It is also ideal for those looking to get a more modern and better looking version of their PS3. On the other hand, if you are happy with your PS3 then this isn’t an upgrade, so don’t waste your money and stick with you already have.
