Spanish Immersion Program Explained
There is no doubt, that Spanish Immersion is the best way to learn Spanish. All experts agree on this. There is no better way to learn Spanish than to go to a country that speaks Spanish. This way you can live and breath the Spanish language. But for most people simply being in a country like Mexico is not enough. These people choose to enroll in a Spanish immersion program so that they can fully immerse themselves as well as have professional Spanish instruction. But what is a Spanish Immersion Program? What should you look for?
The answer to these questions can vary a lot and it is up to the student to make sure the the Spanish school really offers a Spanish immersion program. One of the places where a lot of schools go wrong is believing that Spanish immersion happens only during class hours. That is not Spanish immersion. In many of these cases the students forget everything they learn in their classes when they leave the classroom because they do not use any Spanish for the rest of the day.
Another aspect of a Spanish immersion program is the Homestay option. This typically means that the Spanish school will arrange for the student to stay at the home of a local family so that they can get a chance to practice their Spanish outside of the class. This also allows for a Spanish student to learn the culture of a Spanish speaker which is very important when trying to learn tenses such as Subjective that are very cultural. But even here, it is up to the student to make sure that the Homestay they are assigned is with a family that actually socializes and does not just rent out a room.
The final aspect, which is important to people who do not choose the Homestay option is the activities and trips that the Spanish school arranges. Many Spanish schools claim to have trips and all they really do is send you to a travel agency nearby to make your own arrangements. The best Spanish Immersion Schools arrange trips themselves, with actual school staff along to show you the way. Additionally make sure that the school arranges activities and tours for the students so that they can really immerse themselves in the culture. Remember the point of a Spanish Immersion program is to let you live and breath not only the Spanish language but also the culture of the country you are immersed in.
