The Republican Tea Party’s Agenda

I find it quite disturbing that current polling has the Republican Party winning a majority in the House and coming close to winning a majority in the Senate too. I really just don’t understand how the memory of the average voter could be so incredibly short. It really wasn’t that long ago that the Republicans left this country in a huge mess.

And above the mess that President Bush left us in January of 2009, there is the constant obstruction by the Republican Party since President Obama took office. Every time the President and the Democrats in congress have tried to do something positive for this country, the Republicans have stood in the way. Not for the good of the country, but for the good of their own political futures. An ironic twist considering John McCain’s 2008 campaign slogan; Republicans have been putting the country last since Obama took office.

How have the Republicans been able to move into the drivers seat political when there’s no real rational explanation for it? Propaganda. The Fox “News” network and the Republican Party as a whole have turned manipulating voters into an art form. They have millions of Americans believing things that aren’t even close to the truth and fighting against their self interests.

Whose interests are they fighting for? Corporate interests, of course. The Tea Party has been funded from the start by billionaires. It’s always been a ruse to get the “common people” to rise up and fight against the very people who are trying to make this country more fair for them and fight for the very people who are trying to drive them into ground.

The only hope for the 2010 midterm elections is that the American people wake up and take a good look at what the “Republican Tea Party” actually has in store for our country if they gain power this November.

What follows are seven of the most disturbing things on the Republican Tea Party’s agenda.

1. Give Wall Street the keys to Social Security. Privatization of Social Security is a big part of Republican Paul Ryan’s economic plan that many Republicans are on board with.

2. Get rid of Medicare as we know it. What’s most ironic is that the Republicans actually tried to fear monger health care reform as a threat to Medicare (it isn’t) when it’s actually the GOP that was always against Medicare and they’re still against it today.

3. Repeal the 17th amendment of the Constitution. How ironic is that the the Republicans are always talking about the Constitution when they are the ones constantly trying to wreck it. The 17th amendment gives peopel the right to vote for their own Senator. Yes, many Republicans actually want to take away this right! They want state politicians to pick your Senator for you.

4. Begin many so called “investigations” into anything and everything the Obama administration does. They want to drag this country through the mud over anything trumped up nonsense they can come up with. This is also very ironic: Think about everything the Democratic congress let the Bush administration get away with!

5. Repeal Health Care Reform. Remember all of those Republican lies about what health care reform would mean for you? Are any of them coming true? No. Of course not. They told the same lies about Medicare in the 1960s. Health care reform is actually a hugely positive thing for every American who doesn’t make their living as a CEO of a health insurance company.

6. Extending the Bush tax cuts for the rich. They are still getting people to buy into the whole “trickle down economics” thing. It’s unbelievable really. Since 1980 the disparity between the rich and the poor in the US has grown by in an exponential way. That has a huge part to play in the Bush recession. The rich should be paying their fair share.

7. Abolishing the Department of Education. In the modern economy education is everything, yet the Republican Tea Party wants to take our country backwards rather than forward in this very important area.

This agenda should be extremely frightening to every intelligent American. While the Democratic Party is far from perfect, they are a lot better than the alternative. Please, for the future of our country, vote Democratic this November.

The Republican Tea Party is not fit to be in power.
