Tips For Improving Your Metabolism

Metabolism refers to the internal processes occurring in the body. Our body constantly undergoes wear and tear leading to the formation of new cells and elimination of old ones. This requires energy, which we get from the food we eat. Some people have an in built mechanism of maintaining weight even with a high calorie intake, while others can drastically put on weight even with a slight increase in food consumption. This could be directly attributed to the way the body metabolizes calories. Some people can easily burn calories without having to make any extra effort as their bodies have a higher metabolic rate. People with a lower metabolic rate have to go the extra mile to make sure they don’t put on excess fat.

There are many ways to improve your body’s metabolism. Remember that the key to a healthy body is to have a positive attitude; to exercise the right amount in the right way and to maintain a balanced diet.

Positive attitude: Always remember that stress and anxiety do no good to your general health and well being. Tension and depression play a negative role in your overall metabolism. More often than not, people tend to eat more when they are angry, depressed and worried. Inclusion of high calorie foods gives them emotional stability. This however is greatly responsible for slowing down the metabolic processes in the body, making the person overweight in the long run. Having a positive attitude about yourself and the world you live in plays a crucial role in keeping both your mind and body healthy.

Exercise: The common misconception among many people is that exercising for long hours helps them increase their metabolic rate and therefore helps them lose weight. You should remember that exerting a lot of pressure on your body all of a sudden does not send the correct signal to your brain. Exercising in the gym, paying a daily visit to a nearby fitness centre are some popular measures undertaken by people. Fitness boot camps have become a trend nowadays, where overweight people are put to rigorous physical training, helping them increase their calorie expenditure, thereby increasing metabolism, leading to weight loss.

You should always keep in mind that the type of exercise you undertake depends primarily on your body’s endurance level.

Balanced diet: The food we eat plays a crucial role in regulating our body’s overall mechanism. Making a conscious effort to include certain foods in your regular diet will go a long way in regulating your metabolic rate. Often, overweight people tend to go in for “crash diets”, which is synonymous to starving. The body cannot get accustomed to the sudden decrease in food intake and will therefore lead to impaired metabolism leading to complications.

1. Eating small portions of meals at regular intervals helps in improving digestion and absorption capacity of the body, thereby preventing excess of calorie deposition and improving the overall metabolism.

2. Inclusion of protein rich foods like meat, fish, eggs, milk, turkey etc. helps in improved metabolism. These foods are known to burn out more calories as they require a lot more energy to get digested in the body.

3. Drinking 2 to 3 cups of green tea is known to increase the metabolism and keep you fit and healthy. It has epigallocatechin gallate (EGCG), which stimulates your nervous system and brain, in turn leading your body to burn more calories.

4. Drinking 6-8 glasses of water is a must as this helps the body to carry out the various metabolic processes, thereby maintaining a normal metabolic rate.

So, the next time you plan a weight loss program, remember to keep the tips stated herein. Making a conscious effort to lose weight by increasing your metabolic output involves a combination of above measures and balancing them correctly will ensure a fit and healthy body for a happy living.
