Top 5 SEO Myths
Getting to the top five in search engines is extremely important to get the traffic you need & want. There are many people out there telling you how to get there; some techniques work and some don’t. This article is an attempt to put the finger on the 5 very widely believed SEO myths and understand what the truth is.
– Using keywords more number of times is better: The answer to this is Yes and No. Yes you need to have a decent density of keywords for your article to show up on the search engines. On the other hand, too much repetition of the keywords will land you in trouble with the search engines. Your page can get flagged for keyword spamming if you use the keyword too much. Moreover, a very high keyword density can also make the content uninteresting/ unreadable. A decent keyword density is not defined but anything between 2-4% is considered acceptable.
– You must optimize for one keyword per page: Many SEOs and website businesses believe that they must optimize or build each page around a single keyword. Not only is this unnecessary, it can actually reduce traffic. You can have about 3-5 keywords/ phrases per page. You will be losing out on traffic if you concentrate on just one.
– Don’t use flash on your site: Yes and no again. If you don’t build your entire website on flash and use it here and there it is ok. Search engines don’t get on to well with flash and an entire website built on flash won’t get you the best results. However, using a little bit of flash on your website would not only improve readability and the interest quotient it will also add the necessary interactivity to the page.
– Keyword Meta tags boost rankings: Title and Meta description tags are used extensively by search engines to rank websites. Yes, keyword Meta tags are important too but are not the sole considerations for rankings by search engines. It should however be remembered that relevant and attractive information in the keyword Meta tag will help. Use the keywords as your guide when writing – they must match your actual content!
– More links means better ranking: A strong network of back links is essential and no one can deny that fact. However, if your links are placed on sites that are not reputed (or are link farms) or have content that is inappropriate, the purpose of linking them is gone. Linking should be done with reputed websites and it is generally a two way process (though one way back links would be just great), you link them and they link you back. It is also important to be linked with other websites that share your ideas and core values and it would make sense to get link backs from such sites.
These are one of the most widely believed myths and understanding them can help you get your website to the place you want.
