Article Marketing – 10 Tips For Success

For those of you interested in marketing your product or service via article writing, I have compiled here some tips that will improve the response you get to your articles. You can apply these tips to both your article writing and other types of marketing that you are engaged in.

Firstly, you need to acknowledge your target audience. Your writing needs to be specific and focused and this means that you have to cater to a very specific audience. For instance, you won’t be writing about cars to teenage girls. Figure out who you are writing for and cater to them.

Learn from others. There are many excellent article writers out there that have been doing this for years with great success. All you have to do is read their articles and see what they are doing right. You will see the application of most of these tips I am about to present as well as their own style of writing.

Topics are key. Again, you want to be focused and write about a very narrow topic. The more specific the content of your article, the more useful your reader will find it. Choose topics you are familiar with or something you have done a lot of research in so that you will never run out of ideas.

Write for the reader. Don’t fill your article with content about your product; you need it to be useful to the reader. You should provide information that will present you as an expert in your niche and thus gain the trust of the reader.

Use compelling titles. The title is where you have an opportunity to stand out from the rest and snare the reader. Keep it simple and short but also make sure that it contains the key words that your article is about. Remember to deliver what your title promises.

Have a strong first paragraph. So you’ve got the reader to look at your article, now you need to keep them reading. This is where the first paragraph comes in. You need to convince the reader that if they continue along the article, they will benefit from reading it.

Keep it simple. Don’t over expand on points you make. Keep it to the point and present only relevant information. If you ever stray from the topic, you will lose the confidence of the reader because they are interested in the specific topic that you promised. Don’t over complicate the article.

Focus on layout. This is where you present the article as a whole. The reader can look at the body of words and not feel intimidated by an enormous mass that can be difficult to read. Break up your text. Use proper paragraph structure, grammar and if you can, use bullets or numbers.

Careful keyword placement. You want people to find your article and the way to do this is with key words. However, most people tend to saturate their article with key words and provide no real information. What I have found to be most useful is to first write the article then go over it and see whether or not I have enough key words and then find places to put in or remove them. Maintain a balance that doesn’t overwhelm the reader.

Don’t include advertisements or links in your body. Most internet magazines will not accept this in the body of your article but there is a good reason for this. It is extremely unattractive to the reader. They want information that they can use. The author box is where you can put your links and entice the reader to check them.
