Can Speed Eating Lead to Obesity?
Do you often complete your lunch in just five minutes? As per the study which was recently published in the Journal of Clinical Endocrinology and Metabolism it has been found that speed eating is one of the reasons why people are facing health problems like obesity. As per the study people who were used to speed eating grew fatter day by day and this was not because of the quality of food they had, but because they used to consume the food without chewing it properly which would lead to problems like weight gain.
Another important thing that came up during the study is that people who are busy with their work and professional commitments are often thinking about their work while they are eating which mean that they are not thinking about what kind of food they are eating and how it really taste to them. They are also concerned about how much food they are eating. Hence, it has been researched that people who tend to eat quickly often overeat and that can also lead to problems like weight gain, indigestion and other intestinal complications. As per the study mentioned in the journal it was concluded that while we are eating there are several signals that are sent from brain to the stomach and back again to brain which tells us the amount of food we should eat and if the stomach is full or not. People who eat quickly are often too fast and therefore they are able to eat more than what their stomach can handle.
It has also been concluded that people who are used to eating quickly unconsciously often feel more hungry than people who chew down their food properly and take extra time to complete their meals. This happens because the food they had was not registered with their brain or the hormones inside their body are not as functional as they should be and therefore they again feel hunger in few hours or minutes. In one of the experiments designed to explain this phenomenon a bunch of people were provided with bowl of ice cream. A group of people who ate that ice cream in just 5 minutes said that they were still hungry and felt like eating more. However, people who had the same bowl of ice cream in thirty minutes claimed that they were too full to have another bowl or scoop of ice cream. This test concluded that speed eating does not satisfy the hunger inside us and therefore it can lead to problems like obesity and weight gain.
