Coping With Panic Attacks Can be Easy!
Panic attacks can be an every day occurrence depending on the stimulus with which an individual responds to. Possible stimuli could be a person, an animal, a situation and a natural occurrence. The stimulus varies depending on the cause of the panic attack, and of course, this is different for every individual.
Some people would think that panic attacks are extremely difficult to deal with because of the many symptoms that manifest in one person when he or she is experiencing it. Symptoms vary and could range from something as simple as sweating to something more serious as losing consciousness. What most people do not know is that coping with panic attacks can really be easy.
Before one is able to determine what type of quick fix or easy remedy he or she can do for an immediate relief from a panic attack, it is important to know the cause of that particular attack. For example, if a person suddenly gets paralyzed and all shaky and sweaty at the sight of a snake in the zoo, those with common sense would immediately remove said person from the zoo. It is important to have that person calm down and focus on what is in the present. In order for that to happen, the stimulus should be removed from the immediate vicinity. Also, any other aggravating situations must be avoided such as crowded places, a humid weather condition, and/ or enclosed spaces. In the given example, what should be done would be to remove the person from the zoo, take him or her away from the crown, have the person sit under or in a shady and cool area and have that person focus on you. Give the person some time to recover. This is something that cannot be dealt with in haste, as the person’s physical, mental and psychological condition is at stake. See? Coping with panic attacks can really be easy. No need to go to the hospital, no complicated maneuvers to be done, and no expensive medications to be taken.
To recap, here are the easiest ways to cope with panic attacks:
1. Remove the person from the stimuli or the stimuli from the person – it may involve physically taking the person away or a thing away. The best bet is to avoid the stimuli altogether, unless the person is ready to try and overcome his or her fear.
2. Avoid aggravating conditions – the most common aggravating conditions involve crowds, the heat and lack of oxygen intake. It is important to take the panicking person to a ‘safe place’ where he or she can get his or her bearings back, away from where the stimulus was encountered.
3. Get the person’s attention – have the panicking individual focus on you! He or she needs something else to focus on to avoid having her mind caught in that moment where he/ she encountered the stimulus. Get the individual to look at you, and don’t forget to say soothing words in a calm manner.
Being able to do all these things will make coping with panic attacks as easy as pie!
